Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 2.2.6

Is there any way to use Discovery utility to change the controller IP of an already adopted remote router ?  I have a router i want to change the controller IP of, which is in a locked room, 150 miles away, and i dont really want to drive there for a 5 minute laptop plug in and go job to be honest!

There are no computers downstream of this router i could use via remote desktop....

It is behind another companies NAT so i cant make a L2TP server on it to connect with "tunnel all data through this connection" to make my laptop think its on that network...

There dont appear to be any options using SSH to do this either

I DO have a site-to-site VPN active on it, so i can access its gui - but if i factory reset it, i wont be able to reconnect as it will lose its vpn and as i said, its behind another NAT

If any TP-link staff "have a way" i sure would appreciate it!

It is currently adopted through its VPN, which is fine, but now the business (which its behind the NAT of) has a static public IP i can whitelist that IP for proper port-forwarding adoption so i can have more reliable remote control of it.

Hi @GRL

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

In my opinion, you can try the utility and see the status of the router. If it is available for adoption, you can try.
I have not done anything like this before. I suspect it might disconnect and may require on-site work based on my knowledge and understanding of the controller and the adoption.

It's unlike the cloud controller, which you only need for the Internet and at most a reset.

I thought so, guess i need to jsut go there and do it then!

I have tried the Discovery utility in various ways (when i remove controller form the network so it not interfering) and it just wont see it :-(

That is because the router is already adopted. The broadcast stops, and the utility cannot discover it. If someone is on site, you can ask them to reset it and set up a port forward, you might not need a visit then. That's probably the workaround and easy way out if it is painful to visit it.

I have been thinking about this some more....

Would it be possible to set up a new cloud controller, from my OC200 migrate this one site to that new cloud one, and then from the cloud controller, migrate it back setting the controller IP i actually want it on ?   The only way i can get to any setting that allows me to change the controller IP / Inform URL is through the site migration feature
