Weird issue with WAN latency graph on dashboard widget, ER7206 v2 2.2.0
Weird issue with WAN latency graph on dashboard widget, ER7206 v2 2.2.0

Got a strange one with my WAN traffic graph, dashboard widget ("ISP Load") on my ER7206 v2 running 2.2.0 latest
The graph constantly reports a WAN latency of 1ms, completely flat
Echo server is ON, and tried both Auto and an external IP
Online detection is active, set to 5 minutes
I do not see this problem with ER8411 (on the now revoked 1.3.0) or ER605v2 on 2.3.0 and the same setting on those sites.
OC300 5.15.20.38
I factory reset and re-adopted the router a couple days ago to see if that cleared it and it did not, also factory reset the controller and restored backup, no change
I dont have any issue with WAN connectivity on the router, its jsut this graph that is acting up

A 1ms delay should have no noticeable impact on network usage. Now that 1ms delay persists flattly, it might be caused by a hardware connection issue, such as:
- The Ethernet cable connected to the WAN port.
- The WAN port itself on the ER7206.
- The Ethernet port or other hardware tiny defect on the front modem.
Recommended steps:
- Replace the Ethernet cable.
- Try a different WAN port on the ER7206.
- Try a different ethernet port on the modem (if any).

Hi @hollidayjr
Is it exact same on your site?
Apart from the suggestion I provided above, could you please share a screenshot of the latency page on your controller?

Hi Vincent
I think i didnt explain properly
the 1ms latency (flat, unchanging) is impossible. Unless one.one.one.one (who i set as echo server) have their datacentre in my building, which i would probably notice, it should be reporting in the 20-30ms range as is typical for my ISP, like the graph i posted from my ER8411
Evidently, one of two things is wrong here
1 - the router is reporting this 1ms incorrectly
2 - the controller isnt reading or getting the right info from the router which i think is more likely.
If i ping the same echo server IP i configured from the ER7206 v2 using the controller network tools page, i get the expected delay times

Yes, mine shows exactly the same with the same setup as posted. I have dual wan and it is same on both wans. I upgraded this 7206 from a er605 about two weeks ago and it worked normally with the 605 on both wans.

Hi @GRL
Sorry for the misunderstanding before. Now it's clear to me.
We just released a new pre-release software controller version 5.15.24.14, would you mind updating to it and see if the wrong display persist?

Hi @hollidayjr
Thanks for the clarification.

Hello,
I can confirm it's a bug related to the firmware 2.2.0 of the ER7206 as I noticed it in january.
First : I purchased the ER7206 on december 2024. It was delivered with firmware 2.1.2 and the latency was fine (not 1ms flat).
On January 2025 I upgraded to early 2.2.0 to test "DNS LAN" (which is not a local hostname resolution now I mention it and useless in my useccase, I was serching for client names resolution) and perfomance optimizations.
Just after the the upgrade : I noticed that ISP load showed a 1ms flat graph (I didn't reported it because I thought a patch will come soon but you don't seem to know it).
As proof : I downgraded my ER7206 to 2.1.2 few hours today to show you it's firmware 2.2.0 the problem.
In 2.2.0 latency was 1ms flat. After downgrade, latency seemed well fluctuing behing 10ms. After reupgrading to 2.2.0, flat 1ms latency is back
Approximative time of downgrade on v2.1.2 firmware : 5h30m
