Hi,

I have a network with the following topology:

In the protocol of my Omada controller I can see a loop detected warning every few minutes:

Port 1 of the switch is the connection to the EAP772 and Port 5 is the trunk to the SG2008P (SW_Keller).

What does this mean and what can I do to fix this?

Thanks

  @steven11

Do you have mesh enabled?

Having mesh enabled on EAPs that have wired connections can sometimes create a loop

Otherwise, you need to double check that no wired network devices have any kind of link to other switches or devices they shouldnt have

A Loop is essentially when a switch is detecting its own broadcast or ARP data coming back to itself.  In your case loop detection is kicking in and protecting the network from crashing

Main: ER8411 x1, SG3428X x1, SG3452 x1, SG2428LP x1, SG3210 x1, SG2218P x1, SG2008P x3, ES208G x1, EAP650 x6 Remote: ER7206 v2 x1, ER605 v2 x3, SG2008P x2, EAP650 x2, ES205G x1 Controller: OC300

  @GRL Indeed Mesh was enabled. I disabled it now, but the warning still occurs.

What do you mean with the wired devices? Every device I have has exactly one network cable and that is connected to one switch.

  @steven11

Loop can only be reported if there is a loop, and the only way a loop can occur is if you have some incorrect connection from/to the same switch, and it doesnt have to be directly on it, it can loop back through other switches too.

Main: ER8411 x1, SG3428X x1, SG3452 x1, SG2428LP x1, SG3210 x1, SG2218P x1, SG2008P x3, ES208G x1, EAP650 x6 Remote: ER7206 v2 x1, ER605 v2 x3, SG2008P x2, EAP650 x2, ES205G x1 Controller: OC300

  @GRL ok, thanks for the explanation.

Is there some way how I can further narrow down this? Maybe something better than the brute force method (disable one device after each other and at some time see when the warning stops)?

This is probbaly the only way, once you disconnect something and the errors stop showing, work from there - whatever come off that port must be causign the loop, and it can be anything downstream of it, even if it splits on a switch further down

Main: ER8411 x1, SG3428X x1, SG3452 x1, SG2428LP x1, SG3210 x1, SG2218P x1, SG2008P x3, ES208G x1, EAP650 x6 Remote: ER7206 v2 x1, ER605 v2 x3, SG2008P x2, EAP650 x2, ES205G x1 Controller: OC300

Hi  @steven11

Based on GRL's suggestion, you may prior to check those clients with mesh feature, such as sonos mesh speakers, etc.

Hi  @steven11

May we know if you have found the cause of the loop? Does the issue persist?

  @Vincent-TP no, not so far. I didn't have the time so far to do this.
