Model: TL-SG108
Hardware Version: V9
Firmware Version:

Hello,

I bought this switch last month because I only had a five-port one and now I need to connect more devices. I only noticed the problem today because I needed to download something and the download took an unusually long time. Finally, I noticed the 100Mb/s icon on the wired connection. I replaced the router with the original one and everything is OK and I see 1Gb on the wired connection. So I returned the TP-Link TL-SG108 and checked the other devices and all of them are only 100Mb/s. I replaced the cable between the router and the switch with a new one but without result, still only 100Mb/s. The lights on the switch are green. I have no idea where the problem could be. Can you please advise me?

Thank you.

  @Gucky

100MB or 100Mb?

100MB/s = 1Gbps.

If you have tried different switches, consider if there is a problem with your computer's NIC or the cable. CAT5e is rated for 1Gbps.

  @Clive_A I meant 100Mbps, not 1000Mbps (1 Gbps), in MB/s it's about 10-12. That's why it was written Mb/s and not MB/s

As I wrote, there will hardly be a problem with six cables at the same time and with another switch these same cables work at 1Gbps. My cables are all CAT6, one is about 20m and the others are 2m. I would also rule out a problem with the PC card, because 2 PCs, a SteamDeck printer and a TV are connected to that switch and all devices show a 100Mb/s connection. As soon as I replace the switch (the printer remains disconnected), all devices show 1Gb/s. For the sake of order, UBUNTU 24.04 is installed on both PCs.

There are pictures of connection with TP-Link TL-SG108 and with older switch

Thanks.

  @Gucky

Use a 3ft cable test. There isn't anything to configure or touch.

This is the plug-and-play switch. All similar cases are resolved by replacing the cable. You can read through the forum.

Using a CAT6 does not mean it is good enough for long distances.
