Model: ER605 (TL-R605)   ER707-M2
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I'm trying to set up a VPN connection to ProtonVPN for use on specific subnets or VLANs. I couldn’t get WireGuard to work, but I was able to successfully connect using OpenVPN.

The problem I’m running into is with assigning the VPN to specific VLANs. I have:

  • VLAN 20 for all wired devices

  • VLAN 30 for all wireless devices

The wired devices on VLAN 20 are correctly routing through the ProtonVPN connection and are receiving VPN-assigned IPs. However, the wireless devices on VLAN 30 are still using the default WAN connection instead of the VPN.

I’ve tested this on two different routers: ER707-M2 v1.0 and ER605 v2.0, and I get the same issue on both.

My end goal is to have selected subnets, like VLAN 20 and VLAN 30, always route through the ProtonVPN connection for security. Is there a configuration change I’m missing to get this working for wireless devices on VLAN 30?

  @pwnjuic3

We do not have a support or compatibility list for the third-party VPN providers. And cannot guarantee that it will work with every third-party VPN provider on the market.

So, you can try out the Proton VPN with the current VPN guides. If that does not work, it might be a problem with the compatibility.

In addition, what you need is Policy Routing for the VPN tunnel. This feature has not been implemented yet.

I forgot to add the wireless Vlan to the new SSID i created. That fixed my issue. How ever does anyone have a Guide to get this to work with Wireguard?
