Hi all,

Looking for some help.

Some time ago I managed to lock myself out of the omada platform by accidentally (I assume) creating an ACL rule which wouldn't allow access across VLANs to the gateway.

I had to reset everything as my backup wouldn't load - said it was too old / previous version.

After setting back up, I've had nothing but problems with the WiFi.

I'm running 3x SSIDs on separate VLANs.

I've got a wan ping setup via think broadband to test internet connection - it hasn't missed a beat in 3 weeks and I never have issues with wired so it must be a WiFi issue.

Phones randomly disconnected from the WiFi, or they take ages to load websites.

We have ended up turning off WiFi on portal devices and using 5G for a better experience.

Speed tests generally report fairly strong results, of a around 300mbps download/upload on a 1gbps connection.

I think what is happening is that the WiFi loses internet for some reason and then the phone automatically disconnects. Ive seen messages saying (no internet connection) the the main wireless said when connected.

I have removed all ACL rules etc.

My only thought is maybe the 3 APs I'm using are conflicting? The house is around 2000 sq ft.

I have 1 located centrally upstairs, most traffic goes through this. I then have 1 bottom back left and one top right front for 'spots'. I've run the optimisation to try and help but doesn't seem to have made a difference.

I'm getting to the point im ready to put something else in, as I feel like I'm constantly battling with the omada gear in the last year (had 2 years of running flawlessly).

Any advice or recommendations would be great.

Thank you in advance 🙏

Mike

Hi  @MikeyG23

Thanks for your posting. To understand the issue better, please let us know the following info:
1. How often will the no internet issue happen?
2. When the issue happened, will the SSID disappear, or still show on the wifi list?
3. How will the connection be recovered? Will it be recovered automatically, or will a reboot be required?
4. When the issue happened, would all wireless clients lose internet connection simultaneously, or would some clients still be working?
5. What's the IP address of the clients when the issue happened? Still correct IP, or 169.254.x.x?

In the meantime, you may refer to the following guide to do some optimization:

How to optimize wireless performance of EAP products

  @Vincent-TP

1. How often will the no internet issue happen?

Multiple times a day.

2. When the issue happened, will the SSID disappear, or still show on the wifi list?

Still connected to WiFi, so the ssid is there, but won't load and sometimes shows 'no internet'

3. How will the connection be recovered? Will it be recovered automatically, or will a reboot be required?

Automatically although tried rebooting.

4. When the issue happened, would all wireless clients lose internet connection simultaneously, or would some clients still be working?

I believe all.

5. What's the IP address of the clients when the issue happened? Still correct IP, or 169.254.x.x?

Not using that IP setup, but yes, up remains the same I think.  Will try check but difficult...

  @MikeyG23

When the issue happened, did you check the Internet access of the main router?

Here is a guide to check the IP address of phones:

How to find IP address of Android smartphone/iPhone/iPad

Automatically although tried rebooting.

>>>You mentioned that the Internet will recover automatically, how long will the issue persist?

If convenient, please also refer to the following link to run a ping test when the issue occured:

How to use the Ping command

Please run the ping test on the disconnected client, and ping the EAP's IPaddress, router's IP address, 8.8.8.8 and google.com respectively.

With the ping results, we can locate which part was the cause.
