@Vincent-TP lovely to see a new lite outdoor AP.

Will the EAP693-Outdoor support DFS, in either the US or EU variants?

Hi  @Vincent-TP

hardware:

ER605 V2

SG2008P

EAP683UR

software controller running on Linux Ubuntu 24/7.
ISP Fiber connection speeds of 950mbps down and 660 upload.

3 current VLANs

3 matching WLANs each band separated out

little to no neighbor interference on most channels

house is a ranch style with finished basement around 1780sq ft.
AP placement is in the middle of the house ceiling mounted on main floor away from obstructions.

I recently purchased the EAP683 UR and have had quite a rough time with performance on it. When I first adopted it I was receiving speeds around 200mbps down and 300mbps upload standing less than 5 foot from it. When I setup my VLANs the speeds got even worse. All hardware was updated to the latest firmware during this trial period. I have also noticed significant errors, drops, and retries. Please see the attached pictures.

troubleshooting I tried:

/reducing TX power on both 2.4 and 5ghz - no affect

/seperating each band- no affect

/changing channels and width- little to no affect, even performance loss on certain bands

/ rebooting systems- no affect

the only thing has seemed to make any difference was updating to the most current beta release (which meant updating to the most recent beta release software controller). Although even still the pictures are after all that and I am still having high errors and degraded performance especially if I move more than 10 feet away from the AP.

please let me know if I should submit this elsewhere.

Also I should mention that while doing internet speed tests (regardless of band) the speed flucuates heavily during the test, sometimes around 100-300mbps. The results are also wildly inconsistent. My old Asus RT-AX3000 V2 outperformed this AP which is not exciting.   @QuinnsJoker

Hi  @QuinnsJoker

Thanks for the feedback.

Do you enable Prohibit Wi-Fi sharing for the tested SSID? If yes, please uncheck it and see if the situation persists.

Hi  @Vincent-TP

thank you. I confirmed that this setting was not enabled on any of the SSIDs. I am also having the issue that some have had where the CPU and memory percentage stay at 1% and 19% consistently.

The following settings are also disabled:

Maximum Associated Clients

RSSI Threshold

QoS

Unscheduled Automatic

Power Save Delivery

Mesh

EAP LLDP

Fast Roaming

Band Steering

This setting is enabled on all bands: OFDMA

my current mode:

WPA mode = WPA2-PSK/AES

I did notice setting VLANs seemed to have some effect, like lower speed sometimes. Do you think it is the guest WLAN? My hope is to determine if this AP will be suitable for my deployment before the return window expires. Thank you for your assistance

Hi  @QuinnsJoker

The observed higher packet drop is normal for this model due to its special data collection mechanism, which differs from other EAP devices.  You can safely disregard this.

You may have a look on the following post:

https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/749320

Additionally, the guest VLAN typically doesn't impact performance.

For the most accurate performance evaluation, we recommend conducting an iperf test.

How to use iPerf to test the speed between the EAP and the wireless client
