Q1:  What is Omada Central?

Upgraded from the Omada Cloud-Based Controller, Omada Central is a cloud-based platform for centralized management of networking and surveillance systems. No additional hardware controller, VMS, or on-premises installation is required. As the management hub, it simplifies setup, management, maintenance, and troubleshooting — helping you expand your business and maximize profits. Omada Central Essentials — the free and easy version — is upgraded from the Omada Cloud Essentials and is especially ideal for surveillance networks and systems of small businesses.

 

Q2: When should I use VIGI Cloud VMS/VIGI VMS and Omada Central to manage my cameras?

Use VIGI Cloud VMS / VIGI VMS when you focus solely on surveillance or require advanced surveillance features. Use Omada Central when you are involved in both IT and surveillance systems.

• VIGI VMS will continue evolving towards professional security applications with enhanced features.
• Omada Central’s Surveillance  module will focus on ease of use and essential functionalities for small and medium-sized businesses, remaining distinct from VIGI VMS.

Note: Each product can only be managed by one platform at a time.

 

Q3:  Can a device be managed by Omada Central, an Omada on-premises controller, and VIGI VMS/Cloud VMS simultaneously?

No. A device can only be managed by one platform at a time.

 

Q4: Can I migrate my devices to Omada Central from VMS or an Omada Controller?

Yes. Omada Central supports direct upgrades from an Omada Controller, please refer to

For the devices that need to migrate from VMS to Omada Central, you need to unbind the devices from VMS and adopt the devices to Omada Central.

 

Q5: Are the product versions managed by Omada Central different from those managed by Omada Controller and VMS?

No. Omada Central supports all models and versions compatible with the previous Omada Cloud-Based Controller and VIGI VMS. No need to update the hardware or firmware.

Licensing: Device management fees for Omada Central are the same as using separate Omada Cloud-Based Controller and VIGI Cloud VMS.

 

Q6: Does Omada Central support on-premises deployment?

Not yet. However, we are developing physical cloud gateways that integrate Omada Central and enable LAN management.

 

Q7: Can Omada Central manage third-party devices?

Omada Central can manage Omada and VIGI devices. Also, third-party IP cameras that are ONVIF S compatible can be managed when connecting to VIGI / Omada NVRs.

 

Q9: Can Omada Central manage Omada Pro devices?

Not yet.

 

Q10: Does the Omada Cloud-Based Controller still exist?

The Omada Cloud-Based Controller has been upgraded by Omada Central. Note that Omada Central has two versions —Essentials and Standard —with network management functions identical to Omada Cloud Essentials and Omada Cloud Standard.

Q12: What should I do if I no longer want to manage a device on Omada Central Standard?

You can unbind the license from the device, and then the device cannot be managed on the Omada Central Standard. You can assign the available license to another device. Note that the license will keep ticking after activation whether it is bound with a device, and the unbinding times are limited to 10 times for trial license and 1-year license, 20 times for 2-year license, 30 times for 3-year license, 40 times for 4-year license, and 50 times for 5-year license.
