Model: EAP650-Desktop
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.2 Build 20250123 Rel. 43117

Background:  I am using one EAP610 and two EAP650-Desktop APs in my network.  They are being managed by an OC300 controller and remote logging is enabled in the controller.

Questions:

1. When client detail logging is enabled in the controller, I receive the logs OK from the EAP610 but I never receive any logs from the EAP650 devices.  Is this normal or is it a bug in the EAP650 firmware?

2. The client detail logs from the EAP610 are being logged in the remote server every 5 seconds. The entries are quite lengthy and log lengths grow quite rapidly. Is this normal?

Hi  @jra11500

Thanks for posting here.

1. When client detail logging is enabled in the controller, I receive the logs OK from the EAP610, but I never receive any logs from the EAP650 devices.  Is this normal, or is it a bug in the EAP650 firmware?

>>> What kind of logs are receiving from the EAP610? Could you please share with us some examples? And was there any clients connecting to the EAP650? If yes, did the client had similar network activity as EAP610?

2. The client detail logs from the EAP610 are being logged in the remote server every 5 seconds. The entries are quite lengthy and log lengths grow quite rapidly. Is this normal?

>>> Normally, it functions without issues. Can you share some specific examples for us to check? We need to know how rapidly the logs grow.

Additionally, since you find the current logs are growing too quickly and overly verbose,  you may disable Client detail logging and see if the recieved logs meet your requirements.

Attached is an exported file from the NAS of the EAP610 log.  From the file, you can see the log entries that are being passed every 5 seconds.

I have many more clients connected to the EAP650 APs than the EAP610.  That's why I am surprised that I have no logs at all from the EAP650 APs.

Hi  @jra11500

These log contents are primarily intended for developers, with most information being redundant for end users.

I recommend disabling the detailed logging feature - this will make the logs more concise and readable.

As for the EAP650-desktop send no logs situation, please let us know the firmware version of the OC300/EAP650.

Are the EAP650 plugged into the same switch as the EAP610? Are they in the same network?

OC300 1.0  Firmware 1.30.7 Build 20250704 Rel.78617

EAP650-Desktop(EU) v1.0  Firmware 1.0.2 Build 20250123 Rel. 43117

Attached is the network topology.  One of the EAP650 devices is connected to the main switch and the other access points are connected to separate downstream switches.  Everything is on the same network, i.e. all the network devices are on the default network.

Hi  @jra11500

Thanks for the info.

We need to determine whether the EAP650 did not generate any logs at all or whether it generated logs but failed to send them to the log server.

To confirm this, please search for the EAP650 in the controller's logs interface to see if there are any corresponding entries.

One more question, do you receive logs from other devices ER706W/SG2008?

  @Vincent-TP

Attached is a file with the controller log entries that contain "EAP650".  I purge the logs almost every day after reviewing them and there are not a lot of entries.  It appears that the controller is receiving information from the EAP650 APs.

To answer your question, I receive logs from the ER706W independently from the controller even if the controller has remote logging disabled.  I never have received any independent logs from the SG2008 switches.  There are SG2008 entries in the controller logs similar to those of the EAP650s.
