Model: ER8411
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.2 Build 20240809 Rel.48592

Hello,

We are using a TP-Link ER8411 Router in our office building to distribute internet access among individual tenants.

We have recently encountered a strange issue with one of the tenants who is also using a TP-Link router - model ER707-M2 (hardware version 1.20, firmware 1.3.0 Build 20250512).

The problem is that this router does not respond properly to the Bandwidth Control feature.
Normally, for each tenant we create an IP Group and set an internet speed limit (e.g., 75 Mbps / 150 Mbps / 300 Mbps, etc.).

In the case of this particular router, after a few hours the available bandwidth drops almost to zero. Anyway PING works, DNS works, Tracert works, but opening any website takes an extremely long time or never finishes loading.

When Bandwidth Control is disabled, everything immediately starts working again. After re-enabling it, the connection works fine at first and the speed limit is applied correctly, but after 1–2 hours the bandwidth drops again to zero.

Interestingly, when we replaced temporary ER-707M2 router with another brand router, the problem does not occur.

Try setting the bandwidth limit to "individual" instead of shared.  If the IP group only has one entry this should still work fine to limit that client.

The only thing i can think of here is if they have One-To-One NAt enabled for clients downstream of their router, exposing the OPs to your gateway, and starting to share the bandiwdth across all their clients.  Longshot, but possible, i suppose

For the most part, the ER8411 should see their router, regardless as to what it is, as just a client with an IP.  I dont see why this weirdness might occur if their router settings are not anything weird or fancy

edit:

Do you have IPS/IDS enabled? perhaps its blocking their device or massively throttling their throughput if their traffic is being flagged by the IPS/IDS engine if they are doing naughty things

edit2:

Gateway QOS enabled ?
