Model: EAP773
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.14

I have an EAP773(EU) v1.0 on firmware 1.0.14 which is connected to an aruba 6100 CX serie switch.

The AP works fine for some times, but after about a week, I start seeing increasing error rate on the switch side:

At this point, the EAP773 become unusable with very high packet loss.

After rebooting the EAP (using POE power cycling on the switch), the AP reboot and works fine for a few days/week.

I have multiple TP-Link omada AP, but only one EAP773 so I cannot compare, other TP-Link AP does not show this problem.

For completeness, here is the powe info for the port after a reboot, while in working condition:

@Vincent-TP Ok, it happened again and this time I was able to fully debug the issue. The switch port was transitioning rapidly between 100mbit and 1gbit which was causing the packet loss. The transition was clearly an indicator of one cable pair failing. I was able to reproduce the issue 100% jigling the ethernet cable on the AP. Luckily, I issued an RMA with my supplier and got a new device today. I tried it and it did not cause the issue, even when shaked. I have now installed the replacement AP and shipped the faulty one back. I guess it must be faulty ethernet connector and the heat and other environment factors caused the problem to manifest randomly.

Hi  @kuon

Thanks for posting here.

At this point, the EAP773 become unusable with very high packet loss.

>>> What do you mean specifically by saying unusable? Please give us more details about the situation.

for example, what's the LED status at this point? Can clients connecting to the EAP and get internet access?

What's the firmware version of your EAP773? What's the model number of your other EAP units? How many EAPs do you have in total?

The EAP773 requires approximately 24.5W of power to maintain normal operation. Please verify whether the total power consumption of all clients connected to this switch has reached its upper limit.

Additionally, network cable quality may affect performance—try replacing it with a shorter cable for testing purposes.

Next time when the issue occurs, you may check this info:

@Vincent-TP I noticed some iot devices would be unresponsive, I went on the AP with my phone, did a speedtest and I was a about 600kb/s. I didn't really investigate much at this time. I did reboot the AP and it came back to normal. It did happen before, two times. The AP has been in service for about 2 months.

When this happened, I didn't look at the LEDs.

Version:

EAP773(EU) v1.0

Firmware:
1.0.14

The switch has plenty of PoE capacity and never raised any alarm.

There are also 4 other EAP723 in the setup, two on the same switch, two on an other switch.

In addition to the wireless connectivity problem, on the switch side I see some errors in the stats and a high link transition count. But when the issue is not here, there is no error and no additional link transition. Just when the issue appears, every two weeks or so, the error count goes up and there is a link transition and speed negotiation with the switch about every minute or so.

The cables have been checked with a fluke LinkIQ and they have no issue and are 10gbit/s capable.

Hi  @kuon

Thanks for the reply.

I noticed some iot devices would be unresponsive,

We had released a new version for EAP773, you may update and see if it helps:

EAP773 | EAP783 v1.1.1 Pre-release Firmware (Released on 19th Aug, 2025)
