I'm having RADIUS problems over here.  Clients are getting dropped randomly and not re-associated.  Also, a whole lot of these: "protocol 0000 is buggy, dev ath14"

Here's an example of what happened this morning with my iPhone 16 Pro:

  1. AP and iPhone were in a stable MLO session.

  2. Around 6:45 AM PT, the AP initiated a re-negotiation (possibly due to PMF key re-key, MLO link change, or driver restart).

  3. The MLO negotiation path glitched (firmware bug), leaving the AP’s station entry half-valid.

  4. AP stopped passing your data traffic but didn’t send a deauth/disassoc, so your phone stayed “connected” until you toggled Wi-Fi.

Does anyone have the same or a similar issue?  TP-Link, are you aware of thi,s and are you planning on releasing a fix soon?

Hi  @Ashkaan

Thanks for posting here.

To understand the situation better, please give us the following info:

1. the type of the controller you are using and its firmware version;

2. screenshots of the SSID config ;

3. screenshots of the RADIUS config;

4. Is the iPhone the only affected client? Or there are some other clients involved?

The title said MLO causing the issue, does this mean, if disable MLO, this won't happen?

  @Vincent-TP

  1. Omada Docker running 5.15.24.19
  2. All clients are affected (macbook, iphone, etc).
  3. With MLO disabled, we haven't been able to test much, it DOES seem to be not happening.

Hi @Ashkaan

Thanks for the fast reply.

If set the PMF as capable or Disabled, will this happen?

In the meantime, we had released a new pre-release version for EAP773, you may update to see if it helps.

EAP773 | EAP783 v1.1.1 Pre-release Firmware (Released on 19th Aug, 2025)

No.

I'm curious what happens with WPA3 only, and no MLO.  I wanted to conduct that test, but for some reason, I cannot enable WPA3 only without MLO.  You guys should fix that too.

Ok, I'm excited to test this!  Thank you!

Hi  @Ashkaan

How is the performance with the pre-release version?

We had 1x disconnection so far, but we're hoping it was a fluke.  We'll need more time to test.  Previously, we were seeing them roughly once a day.

I'll report back shortly once we have a few more days of testing.  This isn't an issue that's easy to replicate.

Ok, something odd: I just picked up a laptop and it did not even contact the FreeRadius server.  It just gave the device VLAN 1, which is the default VLAN on this SSID, but not one of the FreeRadius VLANs.  It should have given me VLAN 5.  When I disabled WiFi and re-enabled, I got VLAN 5.

How can I diagnose what just happened there?

Hi  @Ashkaan

Has this laptop previously connected to the VLAN1 network?

Or did you accidentally select the VLAN1 SSID for connection?

No, not at all.  Nothing is allowed on VLAN 1.  It's management.  Feel free to have support request access to the Omada so you can see for yourself.  It's now been over 5x devices that have traversed to VLAN 1.

Omada never even reached out to the FreeRadius server for these devices.  I then hit "Reconnect", and the devices goes to the correct VLAN (either 3, 4, or 5 depending on MAC address).
