Hello,

I have a VIGI C340I camera that is fitted at the top of a wall, underneath a gutter. Very often, spiders weave their web between the camera and the wall. The spider web is visible at night, and with the droplets and the wind, this triggers the human detection algorithm all the time... In the beginning, I used to climb with a ladder to clear the camera surroundings, removing the spider web manually. I've done it many times. I've had enough, I'm out of solutions... I reduced sensitivity in the camera settings so that the spider web doesn't trigger the human detection. Right now, when someone walks in, I don't get notifications anymore, and at night, every time there are droplets on the spider web shaking, I get notifications...

What I don't understand is why I get notifications for human detections if I have "Motion detection" unchecked, and "Human detection" checked. The algorithm should consider this motion is not human, and thus not send me any notification... Here's an example of video I receive at night :

 I get tons of tem.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you.

  @calande

Thank you for your post. May I know the current firmware version of your camera? If it is not the latest, please upgrade to the newest release.Additionally, could you confirm that the constant alarm triggers only happen at night and never during the day?Do you have an NVR managing the camera? If so, please let me know.

Thank you for your reply, @Ethan-TP. The current firmware of the camera is 2.0.2 Build 241028 Rel. 58872n. I just updated to 2.1.0 Build 250701 Rel. 46003n. Let's see if this update includes better human detection. I confirm that the constant alarm triggers only happen at night and never during the day. During the day, the spider web isn't visible on the camera, whereas they are, at night, as seen above on the screenshots. Yes, I use a VIGI NVR1004H-4P to manage the camera events.

  @calande

We recommend that you disable Human Detection and enable only Motion Detection. Then, under the Smart Detection settings for that Motion Detection event, check the Human Detection option. This will activate the human-detection enhancement for Motion Detection, effectively achieving human detection as well. If this still fails to improve detection accuracy, please send us a short video of a false alarm, and we will forward it to the relevant team for analysis and optimization.

Hello,  @Ethan-TP , I followed your directions and disabled Human Detection and enabled Motion Detection, with under the Smart Detection settings for that Motion Detection event, I checked the Human Detection option. The algorithm still failed to analyze properly what is a human and what isn't, at night. Here's a downloadable zip file of the false-positive videos and the screenshots of my VIGI settings so you can forward to the team in charge of the algorithm used in the VIGI cameras:

  @calande Get a sweeping brush and remove the webs, I think you can get a spider spray to keep spiders away but not sure if it works or not

@iTrim I'm 3h away from the venue monitored... I used to remove the spider webs manually with a ladder, but it's too much work climbing there all the time. And even if I could, now, I'm away so I can't do it. I didn't expect a spider web could be identified as a human by the algorithm...

  @calande I know the feeling, it's a battle to keep the spiders away. Just looking at the night images the IR is reflecting off the webs and messing up the image.

What I have done in the past is install an IR light near the camera and turn off the IR on the camera itself, this helps with bugs triggering false alerts
