One unit will not mesh

Model: Deco X20
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version:

A while ago I bought a 3 pack to install in a friend's house as his WiFi was having trouble with 3 floors.

Setting up was straightforward except foe 1 unit that was reluctant to mesh.

Eventually it did , but after a few months it started behaving erratically and then dropped off.

after several visits when I could get it working for a few days and then it would fail we decided to call it quits and bought another 3 pack.

installation and set up worked first time and its all still working today.

Fast forward to today and I have unpacked the original 3 pack and tried to set it up in my house.

Base station set and connected to my router, first attempt.

First extension set up and linked first time.

Second extension. failure after failure after failure.

What can I do with this unit?

Resetting it has no effect. I always end up with a flashing blue and never a solid green.

The unit is obviously faulty and has been since new.

When trying to set up the 2nd unit are you getting any erros in the deco app if so what are they? Whats the color of the led on the 2nd unit?

Need help with the Deco app, setup, Ethernet backhaul, network switch or rolling back firmware? Router or AP mode? https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/forum/topic/699816?page=1

Please look at the image below and make sure when you are trying to set up your deco that your network is set up as one of the examples

If you are still having trouble please get back to us and let us know what example above shows how your network is hooked up

  @HelpFixDecoApp i used the daisy-chain method.

I also tried setting up the system with the iffy unit as the base station.  Just got the same result (and obviously the other two wouldn't work)

A an experiment I tried connecting the iffy unit by ethernet to the satellite that was working.

Initially is produced white light then after a while it went back to flashing blue - and stayed that way for over an out before turned it off.

tried that on both ports, same result.

The two units that are working are working very well. in fact most of the devices in the house are now connected to their network.

I think (unless a miracle happens) that unit 3 is useless.

@HelpFixDecoApp He got two sets and successfully set up the second one.  Not sure how you haven't concluded the one Deco is defective.

@AlanKii Did you ever try to RMA the set???

If your still willing to troubleshoot please try the following. Unplug the power adapter from the working satellite unit and plug it into the deco that won't set up and try the set up process again.

Let us know if that works or not.

@HelpFixDecoApp tried that as part of my initial set-up.

I couldn't remember which Unit was the iffy one.

Found it first time when I started .

This unit initially worked (albeit with a lot of reset, try again, reset, try again) when I set it up in my friend's house

A I said earlier, I did get it to mesh but over a month or so it kept dropping off. I did think that it was possibly too far away from its nearest neighbour so I swapped them around several times. After several visits to my friend we decided that it would be best to get another set.

That set set up really quickly and the units meshed well at the first attempt.

I brought the original set to my house where it sat in its box for ages until my wife nagged me to do something or get rid of it.

Getting set up was easy (once i'd eliminated the iffy unit), but the iffy unit just refused to stop flashing blue.

The base unit is in my study where the BT router is located (different SSID), the working satellite is in another room and the Apple TV and the HomePods (and the phones, ipads & laptops) are all talking to it.

Since the unit isn't working anyway you could try a firmware recovery? Instructions can be found here. https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2958/

If it still wont work then I would try the RMA link that is posted in this thread
