Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 2.3.0

Hello,

I have a Fritz!Box modem/router with an IPv6 connection. On the Fritz!Box, I enabled the “DHCPv6 Server in the Home Network” and checked the options:

  • “Enable DHCPv6 server in the Fritz!Box for the home network”

  • “Assign DNS server, prefix (IA_PD), and IPv6 address (IA_NA)”

My ER605 router successfully receives the IPv6 prefix. On the Fritz!Box, I see the following information.

  • RA valid time: 3 days

  • RA preferred time: 1 day

On the ER605, I am using the default RA times.

The problem is: the Fritz!Box gets a new prefix every day, and when that happens, my ER605 clients lose IPv6 connectivity for about 2 hours.

Has anyone experienced the same issue? What could be causing this, and how can I fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

I'm from Germany, Hessen and I use a Fritz!Box 6591 in Bridge Mode with a Vodafone CableMax 1000.

I use only IPv4 because at IPv6 my ER7412-M2 got no IPv6 address from the Fritz!Box.

I got only the IPv6 Gateway and DNS address.

How your settings at Omada that you got an IPv6 address?

Greetings Thorsten.

  @Totti_14

Do you have ipv6 connection on your fritzbox? If yes:
Frist you have to activate this one.

Then here is th internet setting in omada

In lan configuration in omada you have to select the wan. Then you will see your ipv6 prefix.

Currently I use pass-through because it works better for me.

Hello,

yes I have a IPv6 address at my Fritz!Box, my connection ist Dual Stack.

With a Präfix Delegation Size 62 I got no connection, only 59 Präfix Size work and I got a connection without an IPv6 Address.

 Greetings, Thorsten.

Hi, in your screenshot, you do not have ipv6 connection. It shows only link-local connection. Try pass-through connection in omada internet settinng. You should select the connection-type pass-through. Then it should work

  @vedat

Thank you for your post. After the 2-hour outage, does the ER605 automatically restore IPv6 connectivity on its own? If so, how does it recover?

Additionally, have you tried mirroring the WAN port on the ER605 and capturing the packets to confirm:

• Whether the Fritz!Box actually issues a new prefix every day;
• Whether the ER605 sends a Renew or Rebind in response;
• Whether the new prefix is correctly inserted into the RA.

Hello,

now I have change the Wan & Lan connection-type to pass-throught and it shows connectet but I got no IPv6 address.

Maybe the FritzBox setting in IPv6 are wrong?

Greetings Thorsten

Hello  @Totti_14 ,

Thanks for your feedback.

  • I haven’t captured the packets yet, but I could do that.

  • The new prefix usually arrives around 5 a.m. However, on the clients the old prefix is still valid for some time, so they keep trying to connect using that address. Eventually they do receive the new IP.

  • I still need to check whether the router actually picks up the new prefix immediately.

  • Do I need to enable the option “Firewall for delegated IPv6 prefixes of this device” on my modem (Fritz!Box)?

Hi @totti_14 , If you use passthrough, your router will not get an IPv6 address, but your client will. Additionally, you have to enable IPv6 on a LAN (for example, LAN-Default). Then the clients in LAN-Default will receive IPv6 addresses from your modem (Fritz!Box). These devices will be in the same IPv6 network as the Fritz!Box.

Hello,

you write: "The new prefix usually arrives around 5 a.m." is that not only on DSL Internet reconnect every day?

I habe Cable Internet and my IP normaly not change, only if the modem is longer time offline then I got a new IP Address (IPv4).

But now I have activate IPv6 and I let some days on for test.

Greetings, Thorsten
