Model: ER706W
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: ER706W(EU)_V1_1.2.2 Build 20250821

@Clive_A or @Vincent-TP, today I ugraded the firmware of my ER706W router of my second site from version ER706W(EU)_V1_1.2.0 Build 20250428 via version ER706W(EU)_V1_1.2.1 Build 20250821 to version ER706W(EU)_V1_1.2.2 Build 20250821.

After the upgrade DNS resolving of wireless clients doesn't function anymore. This results in that wireless clients cannot connect to internet anymore. It used to work fine until I upgraded the firmware.

(I am not able to test if it also affects wired clients because I don't have any wirde clients at this moment. I will test that later this weekend)

Edit: It also affects wired clients.

Even setting the DNS Server of the respective WLAN from Auto to Manual and using any DNS service (Cloudflare, Google, OpenDNS) does not solve the issue.

I am able to connect my laptop though to internet via VPN from the laptop to my main site (with ER605 router). So there is internet connectivity on the ER706W router, it just doesn't reolved DNS for wireless clients.

According to the release notes it is not possible to donwgrade to version 1.2.0 anymore: "Once upgraded to version 1.2.1, you will not be able to downgrade to previous version. Contact Omada technical support if downgrade is required."

Does anyone recognize this and know how to solve this? Or how to downgrade back to version 1.2.0?

@Clive_A and @Vincent-TP, I found it. I checked every feature. It turned out to be Intrusion Detection/Prevention. It was set to Detect and Prevent (IPS). With the 1.2.0 firmware, no problems at all, but now after the firmware upgrade to 1.2.2, it suddenly is. I have no idea why. For now disabled Intrusion Detection/Prevention.

  @WM1

Thank you for your post. You mentioned that this issue also affects wired clients—does it impact all wired clients? And what about wireless clients? Is the phenomenon present on every wireless client as well?

Secondly, during your VPN testing, was the router acting as the VPN server?

When IPS & IDS are enabled, traffic is actively monitored and malicious traffic may be blocked. You can try disabling IPS only to see if the issue persists.

Under normal circumstances, DNS queries on port 53 should not be dropped. However, IPS & IDS can consume significant system resources, which may lead to DNS query timeouts. You can use the tracert tool to trace the DNS query path and identify where the blocking or timeout occurs.

Hi @Ethan-TP, please find my answers below.

Does it impact all wired clients?

-> It impacted ate least one laptop which I connected to port 6.

And what about wireless clients?

->It impacted all wireless clients (mostly Apple iPhone and Apple iPads, also one Samsung Galaxy, an Apple AirPort and a wirelesly connected television.

Is the phenomenon present on every wireless client as well?

-> Yes.

Secondly, during your VPN testing, was the router acting as the VPN server?

-> No, I just enabled the VPN connection from a laptop on my second site to my main site where a Synology NAS acts like VPN server.

You can try disabling IPS only to see if the issue persists.

-> I did this and also that did not solve it. Only completely disabling Intrusion Detection/Prevention solved it. Again, this setting didi not cause any issue until the firmware upgrade.
