Model: EAP610
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.6.0

hi all,

i have following setup:

Fortigate 60F - Switch Netgear PoE - OC200 with 4 EAP610 connected.

Running several tests (mainly speedtest) i ve discovered that after 6/7 times, speed decrease from 3/400 Mbps to 50 Mbps (download while upload will remain high). AP 2 meters away

Just disabling and re-enabling Wifi on the device, speed will go back to 400Mbps (without changing the IP address)

I ve disabled any kind of QoS on all devices (switch, firewall and OC200).

Any suggestion?

Many thanks

Marco

Hi  @maresu

Thanks for posting here.

Speed testing (especially multi-threaded/high-frequency speed tests) can significantly increase the load on the AP’s CPU, RF module, and memory, leading to:

  • Instantaneous power surge: Processing large volumes of data packets, encrypting/decrypting traffic, and maintaining high throughput can push power consumption close to peak levels (e.g., the EAP610’s full-load power consumption is around 21W).
  • Heat buildup: Continuous speed testing may cause chip temperatures to rise. If heat dissipation is insufficient, throttling may be triggered (e.g., CPU/RF module downclocking to protect hardware).
  • Reason for recovery after reboot: After a reboot, hardware temperatures drop, memory caches are cleared, and performance temporarily returns to normal.

Why are you running continuous speed tests? Are you experiencing any actual issues with your wireless network? If you’re facing any Wi-Fi-related problems, you can refer to the following link for performance optimization:

Hi @maresu,

See How to use iPerf to test the speed between the EAP and the wireless client to help narrow down where the issue is.

@maresu Have you tried with other speedtest apps as well? Also, just to clarify, are you running the same speedtest 6 or 7 times consecutively? Your ISP may be throttling your download speed because of that.

I recommend also testing from a service such as fast.com as well and checking the speed again.
