Model: EAP225-Outdoor
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version:

Hello,

I have some issues with EAP225 Outdoor. Let me introduce the configuration I have. On the below "diagram" I have tried to sketch how the AP is currently positioned. I have main building on the left which is elevated 2-3 meters above the other one on the right. AP is positioned on a 2 meter pole on the roof of the secondary in order to compensate the elevation from the other building. Idea of this "design" was to use only one AP and to cover the main building and the yard where I have some IoT devices for the irrigation. In the yard and outside the main building and iniside the one on the right I have no problems, but inside the main building on the left the signal is very poor. It is old wooden house with no or minimal metal inside... also only few electric sockets and lights...

Questions are: Am I doing it wrong? Should I consider using directional AP, something like EAP650 D120-Outdoor? Maybe that way the devices in the yard will not be covered as they are on the ground and the directional beam will not be appropriate? Should I consider puting second AP inside the main house? What you will recommend?

Thank you in advance!

Hi  @masylski

Thanks for posting here.

25 meters and above is quite challenging for most wireless client devices (smartphones, tablets). However, for the EAP225-OD, it is not an issue if there are no strong obstructions or interference.

Where is your Internet modem router located? Is it from the main house? I would recommend adding another indoor access point in the main house for the inside coverage. For example: EAP650-desktop

Thank you @Vincent-TP  !!!

Yes, I never thought that the devices themselves can be the problem, but it must be this...

I will put second AP in the main house... thank you for the model suggestion.

FYI - Internet modem router is located in the main house (on the left) and EAP225 is wired ... yes, 25m cable...but there was already existing "infrastructure" so I just used it...

Regards!

Hi  @masylski

Thanks for the reply.

Here is a link to the product page for access points. You can choose the one you like best.

2.4 GHz should be no problem with your diagram as you intend. 5.4 GHz might not be best server in the building, but will work great outdoors.  I get 225m to an S23 with line of sight.  But we are all guessing what is going on your way. You should download a WiFi scanning tool to an Android phone. I use WiFiMan from Ubiquiti which does a great job showing RSSI and roaming in a multi AP scenario. With this type of tool, you will learn alot, as well as understand your issues. There is no equivalent for iPhone since Apple doesn't allow deep access to the radio.  Good Luck!
