Model: TL-SG3210XHP-M2
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 3.0.12 Build 20250512 Rel.65933

Hi,

I just bought a SG3210XHP-M2 3.0 and 2 SM5310-T  to go with it. The logs show they are recognised but they do not work. I connected a device to port 10 and .nothing, no light, link showed down. When I moved the cable to one of the regular ports, the device connected without issue.   When I look at the ports, they show as "fiber" not "copper" like the others.

The switch is listed as compatible on this page.

I am new to this, am I doing something wrong? Help please.

Log excepts below.

@fw61 port speed edit are in L2 Features, Switching-Ports. Select (check) one or more ports then use the drop-down in the header to set it. Don't forget to click the save (upper right), otherwise changes will revert after switch reboots.

Hi @fw61,

You may need to adjust the speed/duplex settings on the SFP+ port used to match the client.  I thought the ports were defaulted to 10G/Full, so if your client doesn't support that speed this may be the issue.

Side note: The copper modules can generate a bit of extra heat so make sure you have adequate cooling. If both are installed and one/both randomly stops working until it's reseated, it may be heat related.  The dual SFP+ slots in your switch do not appear to be as tightly packed as the quads, so maybe it won't be an issue. DAC cables are a better option if they can be used.

  @D-C

Thank you for replying.

Looking at the module specs, it does advertise being able to handle from 10G to 1000Mbps. It could be that my devices (RPi 5/Orange Pi 5) are just limit, although they use 1000Mbps on the regular interfaces. I don't see a way to set the module speed in the GUI (CLI maybe?)  In any case I will get my router soon and it should handle 2.5G I'll check then. I am using short Cat 8 cable... that should work.

Cheers
