ER706W not used in mesh mode
Hi, I'm interested in purchasing the ER706W. I want to use it as a router and also to replace my indoor EAP265HD, since it has Wi-Fi 6. If I add this to my Omada Switch, OC200 and other eaps, can this also work as a wired AP vs in mesh mode. All my other eaps are wired. I just don't want to use mesh. Also would it be more beneficial to just replace my indoor EAP265HD instead? I'm currently using pfsense for openvpn, but it doesn't always work and I'm thinking about just going with a dedicated VPN router, but I still want to conserve most of my 500mb speed, I know openvpn will slow things down, especially if I use a lower powered router. Would this suit my needs or should I just go with ER8411 and replace my eaps? I'm using indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi 5 eaps. Thank you for taking the time to read this question.

no it doesn't just work in mesh, it's already built into the router, but if you want to mesh other access points from somewhere else it has the option to do that. or use cable like you do.

I have an ER706W here as a backup gateway. It is a gateway and AP in the same device. However, it does not have an AP only mode. You must set up the gateway to use the wireless functions.

@jra11500 I understand that part, what I'm asking is if it only works in mesh with other eaps? I don't want my network to be in mesh, I've run CAT6A throughout my property for the eaps and my poe cameras. The ER706W would be behind the ONT and in front of my POE switch. So I can use the ER706W in the server room as my main eap and the others will be used as they are now, everything is controlled by an OC200. I have everything except for the ER706W and everything is set up already.

@MR.S thank you. Do you happen to know anything about its openvpn performance? Would it be anything close to the ER8411?

@MR.S thank you, I will, I think there is a comparison tool on tp-link's website.

A wired gateway and a wireless gateway cannot be directly compared; you can check their specifications through this link.Omada Router
