Hi all,

 

I just got this 10G switch to upgrade my home network but the boot is taking over a minute.

 

It is the only managed switch in my network, the other one is a dumb switch, I did connect it to my PC, same thing, the boot takes forever before any network activity happens.

I did enable L2 FEATURES > Spanning Tree > STP Config > RSTP(globally) 

I also enabled L2 FEATURES > Spanning Tree > Port Contig > Edge Port

 

If I connect it to my OPNSense firewall 10G NIC (Sophos SG210 Rev3), nothing happens, no network, no activity, nothing.

I do remember my manager installing other managed business switch brand, after setting up the Spanning Tree, they were booting as fast as an unmanaged switch.

So I know that this is not normal, imagine it taking minutes to start crashing my TrueNAS and Proxmox servers.

 

I did search online and didn't find much positive posts so before I return it, I wanna make sure I am not missing something silly.

I did set its VLAN1 interface to static IP instead of DHCP, that didn't fix it either.

Thank you for the reply, my problem seems to be skill issue.

 

I did not realized and didn't take into consideration that managed switches have their own OS and and checks-list to do. 

 

It should not have to reboot, I thought something was off because it would not turn on, and this is the UPS version, if you flip the switch it won't turn on.
I do have a 1000VA UPS in case things go sideways and should hold my rack up to 2h..... in theory.

 

As for the "connect to OPNSense firewall, nothing", I am still trying to figure things out,

I have replaced the switches, this new one is the only active switch, I have disabled both STP and Edge port.

 

Right now the switch is connected via DAC to the OPNSense/Sophos 10GBE, the weird part is that at some point my PC lost access to the network, both Technitium DNS servers went dead, it was a mess haha
I have been running this setup for years without a single issue and still don't know what happened, logs had no error.

 

As of now, everything is working as intended. I will keep monitoring things.

It appears to be taking 1 minute and 30 seconds to start.
The managed switched at the warehouse were 48P and they would boot much faster.

 

What am I missing??

Thanks for reaching out to TP-Link Business Forums.

 

For a managed switch, a 90-second boot-up time is still within the reasonable boot-up scope as it might require time for hardware self-checks, OS loading, configuration application, and protocol convergence (e.g., VLAN, STP). This is typical for entry-to-mid-level managed switches and does not impact normal performance once running.

And since you install it for your home network, you would not reboot it often, wouldn't you?

How many times a day/week or month would you load it?

 

If you still think it too long for your case, you can try following:

1. Disable SPT/RSTP and see if it improves the load time;

2. Save the current config and then clear all settings or simply perform a reset, check if it would helps

 

BTW, there is a noticeable point - "connect to OPNSense firewall, nothing" - do you mean you cannot even access the network when connecting to the firewall?
