Model: EAP110-Outdoor
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 5.0.7 Build 20230410 Rel. 69645(5553)

Hi! To whom this may concern,

I got an outdoor TP Link EAP 110 and I enable the external radius authentication. Everything works fine. Recently, there are a lot of times of that power fluctuates and this past few days I notice the the accounts of clients  data usage are not moving or empty. I went to the location and found out that my EAP 110 was reset and without password. All people connects to it freely. My question is, does that EAP110 reset itself on consecutive power loss? Starlink resets itself when plug and remove power for 7 times consecutively.

I'm really thinking that someone climbed to my EAP and manually resets it. You need a long ladder to reach though and my neighbor don't seems to own a long ladder. I think they are trust worthy, maybe.

By the way, I'd like to report also. I'm not sure about this but maybe there was an error on my configuration.

I setup a SSID (HotspotNet) and it authenticates using radius (external). I left the password field empty cause if ask for authorization before getting a connection the internet. It works fine but then, I tried extending the SSID (radius auth) using my Comfast AP to reach far cause the TPLink EAP 110 can only reach 100m less. Since the SSID (HotspotNet) don't have password, the Comfast AP connects automatically. I did not put password on the new Comfast AP (SSID, "Hotspot_Extender"). I connect to the "Hotspot_Extender" and it connects me to the internet automatically. It does not ask for the radius login.

The TP-Link EAP110 is designed to reboot and reconnect using its saved configuration after a power outage.

Regarding your second question, from a security perspective, I'd say that it's better to configure either Radius or Pre-Shared Key authentication than nothing.

In the case of a Radius authentication, when devices connect to Comfast AP SSID, they will prompt for a username and password (or a certificate) rather than a simple Wi-Fi passphrase.

based on your answer on my first question we can say that someone really did manual hardware reset?

Hi  @Exejee

Thanks for posting here.

Generally, the device configuration will not be lost after a power outage.

Besides the password change to open, did the SSID revert to the default? Has the EAP login account also been changed back to the default ‘admin/admin’?

How did you power on the EAP? It's possible that it's caused by an insufficient power supply.

If you are using the included passive POE adapter and can avoid a manual factory reset, it's recommended to contact your retailer for a replacement.

Hi @Vincent-TP
There is a power outage this past weeks and the device reset. I saw the SSID something like "TPLink" with some version number or model maybe, and it's open, no password at all. I connected but I cannot access the Web UI on my phone but when I brought it home and plug to my PC, I'm able to access the page and showed me the wizard page.

I reconfigured it again and added the radius auth/accounting thing. My clients connects to my wifi and using radius feature I'm able to read their downloads and bill them according to how much download they have use. It is really weird that it happened. I really thought EAP has similar features to Starlink where when powered and unplug 7 times consecutively it resets to default settings.

It's now working and I wrap the EAP110 with electrical and added some things inside that will fall when someone tries to remove the tape. I will  then know that it was manually resetted.
