Hello,

I'm having a hard time using my cameras here. I have a VIGI NVR1008H-8P recorder, and VIGI C485 and C340 cameras. Both camera models are used to record when triggered by wild animals at night. Problem is, the cameras are triggered by insects at night (flies, midges) and bats. I also noticed glitches in the lens at night (for no obvious reason), which trigger also the camera. I set the sensitivity to 1 for motion detection (the minimum), but still, I get event notifications all night long, and when I watch the short videos, there is nothing beside the insects flying in front of the lens. As a side note, spider webs also trigger the cameras at night when there is a little wind shaking the web. I chose VIGI because it is supposed to be higher end, but I'm disappointed because these cameras don't fulfill my needs. I'm unable to set them properly to watch wild animals on my property at night. The VIGI advertisements put forward AI as a hallmark that is supposed to make these cameras unique and cutting edge, but I don't see any use of AI in these cameras that are unable to discard false-positive events caused by mere insects flying in front of the lens, or glitches of light. For your information, to investigate, sample videos of my cameras can be downloaded here:

Needless to mention that I took the time to clean the lenses and the surroundings of these cameras before these videos were recorded, with a clean cloth, and they were clear of spider webs (except for the last video with the spider web).

I have the same problem with all my VIGI cameras.

Could you forward this complaint to the department that designs the VIGI cameras, so they can improve their detection algorithm, please?

Thank you.

Hi,  @calande
Thank you for posting here.

Motion detection on outdoor-mounted cameras is susceptible to false triggers caused by interference from insects and rainfall, and this issue occurs even more frequently when the camera is in night vision mode with infrared lights activated. While we cannot eliminate such interferences entirely, we have prepared the following suggestions to help you reduce unwanted false alerts as much as possible:

1. You may enable the motion detection classification function. Navigate to Devices > Device Settings > Detection > Motion Detection, then you can select to enable trigger notifications only for humans or vehicles as you need.
2. Customize your detection area. You can exclude regions that are prone to capturing small moving objects from the motion detection range.
3. Adjust the mounting angle and position. You may reposition your camera to a location where it will be exposed to minimal interference.
For more detailed information, please also refer to this guide:
How to Reduce Motion Detections from Rain, Snow, or Insects, etc. | TP-Link

Additionally, we greatly value your experience and feedback, and we will forward your input to our relevant internal department for future product optimization. Thank you again for sharing your feedback with us.

Thank you @Nathan-TP for your reply.

you can select to enable trigger notifications only for humans or vehicles as you need

I saw these functionalities a while ago, and this could suit other people's needs. But in my case, as explained in my original message above, I want to capture footages of wild animals that cross my property (not cars or humans)...

You can exclude regions that are prone to capturing small moving objects from the motion detection range.

I have trimmed the upper corners already, but most of the angle captures an area where wild animals are likely to come by, I can't trim more than that. Also I noticed the flies and midges appear anywhere on the image, there is no specific area of the image where they come by. They are everywhere, at random, at any time.

You can exclude regions that are prone to capturing small moving objects from the motion detection range.

Same as above... The insects fly anywhere in front of the lens. They are attracted by IR light, I suppose.

You may reposition your camera to a location where it will be exposed to minimal interference.

I haven't done it, as it would be on the same walls, and I suppose this wouldn't make any difference, as the insects would fly the same way in front of the cameras...
I'm disappointed by VIGI cameras. I hope TP-Link improves the detection algorithm of their cameras in the future.

Thank you.

Hi,  @calande
Thank you for your feedback.

Currently, VIGI Cameras are not yet able to completely eliminate false motion detection alerts caused by insects or rain in outdoor environments. This is because the motion detection function triggers an alert whenever it detects any moving object within the monitoring field of view, regardless of what type of object it is.
As such, we can only mitigate interference from insects and rain to the greatest extent possible at this stage.
