ADSL/VDSL modem router in bridge mode in conjunction with wireless router/Deco avoiding Double NAT

In the following diagram is the typical network topology:

Before you start, I would suggest to backup the TD-W9960 and C80 configuration just in case something goes wrong.

You will need these credentials for configuring PPPoE session in C80 later:

Delete the old Internet connection in TD-W9960 (PPPoE):

Add new Internet connection of type Bridge (click Save at the end):

Note: Make sure the modem LAN DHCP server is disabled - some modems may need this setting changed.

Settings in C80:

If you ISP uses a particular VLAN for the Internet, IPTV or VOIP you can set these here (captured from TD-W9960 in the first step):

Configuring PPPoE session in C80 (captured from TD-W9960 in the first step):

After configuring the PPPoE in C80 click CONNECT (if available) and you should be able to establish the PPPoE session from C80.

You'll have an internet connection with a Single NAT in C80.

Similarly you can use other TP-Link ADSL/VDSL modem instead TD-W9960.

Also you can use Deco system (in router mode) or any other wireless router instead C80 depending on what hardware you use.

Hello, World ! Wi-Fi

Which is the newer faster modem? Is it the one in the front or the back?

In the front is the router modem (TD-W9960). In the back is a wireless router (Archer C80) which is a newer device with more features implemented.

Thanks for the heads-up! Safety first. Would you mind sharing a quick guide on how to backup the configurations for  WhatsApp TD-W9960 and C80.

To avoid double NAT with your ADSL/VDSL modem router in bridge mode, connect the modem/router to your wireless router or Deco system directly. Set the ADSL/VDSL modem/router to bridge mode so it only handles the modem function and disables its routing capabilities. Configure your wireless router or Deco to manage the network and DHCP functions. This setup will prevent double NAT issues and streamline your network.

The solution I found no one has talked about.  Delete all internet profiles, make one in bridge mode as explained everywhere.  Setup your router to do the ppoe login. As outlined above.

To get this to work properly without double nat I had to go to advanced —> network --> lan settings —> edit —> turn off dhcp.

This turns off the tplink from handing addresses to the router.  I have a UDM Pro, In the unify app, so use whatever the interface is in your router.  I go to settings, internet and watch the port address for the wan, it should have a wider address handed from the provider.  I was getting 192.168.1.100 every time until I turned off dhcp in the tplink lan settings
