I just recently bought a TPLink EAP110 access point, because I want to use the portal feature. I am currently using the AP standalone(not connected to the internet) and I am having a hard time looking for the gateway IP address. What is the IP address to change the settings of the router?

The site tplinkeap.net does indeed exist:

$ whois tplinkeap.net
   Domain Name: TPLINKEAP.NET
   Registry Domain ID: 1863601215_DOMAIN_NET-VRSN
   Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.rrpproxy.net
   Registrar URL: http://www.key-systems.net
   Updated Date: 2020-03-19T09:53:21Z
   Creation Date: 2014-06-20T08:46:25Z
$

Check your router. Most routers have a DNS rebind protection enabled, which discard upstream RFC1918 responses (private IPs).

However, the site tplinkeap.net is a dynamic configuration domain, which means that it returns such an RFC1918 response (your network's IP of the EAP you're associated with wirelessly) and if rebind protection is enabled in the router, this response gets silently discarded:

$ nslookup tplinkeap.net
Server:        192.168.178.1
Address:    192.168.178.1#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    tplinkeap.net
Address: 192.168.1.219
$

Solution is either to use the IP address of the EAP directly or to disable rebind protection in your router if you want to use the domain name tplinkeap.net. To find out the EAP's IP, log into the web UI of your router and check the DHCP leases if you use DHCP for the EAP.

Or – as I always recommend – use a static IP for stationary devices such as an EAP. Either create a MAC/IP mapping in your router's DHCP server or change the EAP's network settings to a static IP. The former method even allows you to assign a name to the EAP, e.g. »eap1«, which you can use in your browser's address field to connect to the EAP's web UI, so you don't need to remember the IP.

@TGoessens, in other words:

DNS rebind protection is a security measure against computer attacks.

You would need to turn off this to make the tplinkeap.net mechanism working for your network.

A better and fool-proof method to access an EAP is to use the IP address of this EAP directly in the web browser.

Hi Kinetix,

The fallback IP of the EAP is 192.168.0.254, if you want to login to the management of the EAP110, you can login to it via IP address or tplinkeap.net. You can refer to the following faq to learn more about it:

https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/2364/

@Kinetix

I have the same problem. That site tplinkeap.net   just doesnt exist. I have tried all the different browsers.

Why would you give a site that does not exist?

Dear @TGoessens @Rodarn,

Thank you for posting the problem on the Community.

The most important thing we need to confirm before accessing the EAP via domain name tplinkeap.net:

make sure the EAP is hardwired to the network via Ethernet cable and your wireless clients can access the internet through the EAP's SSID.

For more details, please refer to the troubleshooting guide below.

What Can I Do If I Fail to Log In to the EAP via the Domain Name

Besides, there is another method to login to the web management page, check Situation 2 from the guide below (a wired PC is required).

How do I login to the web management page of the EAP Series products (Standalone mode)

Any further assistance, please kindly write back with the device info (model & hardware) and troubleshooting you have done as well as the results for analysis. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Best regards!

@Kinetix When you open the address from the modem and search for all smartphones / tablets etc you will notice that, there is also  the address from your TP-Link 192.168.etc😉
