Vlan Over Vlan
Vlan Over Vlan
Hello Everyone,
I am trying to add this switch on my network (ISP), where I have on many places splitted on cross-road by mikrotik RB setting by vlan.
On one of the ports, example 1, I have about 2 RB with differents VlanID. So I set this port 1 Vlan ID 11 on the switch, over this port along the networks it will find the RB with 112,113,114,115 Vlan ID then last RB 212,213,214,215.
Then, I tried so many setups and the only Vlan on my Mikrotik works it is 11, all the rest pppoe server cannot see, why???
1. set on my switch 802.1Vlan port 1 Vlan 11 then 112...215 and PVID 1 DID NOT WORK
2. set on my switch 802.1Vlan port 1 Vlan 11 then PVID 11 did not work
The only vlan works on mikrotik is 11 all the rest nothing.
ps. when I ping the IP on the RB it works!!!!! why not pppoe server?
Has anyone has any clue how to set this up????
Thanks

I don't quite understand what you mean, just say my opinion.
I saw that your port2,4 of tp-link switch is in multiple VLAN but they are untagged port. So the devices connected to these ports do not support VLAN tag. So the data sent from port 2,4 belong to VLAN1 because their PVID is 1. Please confirm whether your RB can receive the data of VLAN1 and reply to the same VLAN or other VLAN which the client can receive.
Another problem is MTU, if you use pppoe, maybe MTU should 1492 or less?

@Andone thanks for your reply.
Well! my problem is: how can I have a Vlan after another vlan on the network, example:
I have:
on my RB on port 6 connected to port 24 to my tplink.
on my tplink I have port 1, 2, 3 (vlan 10, 11, 12)
all this setup on the top, everything ok!!!
now it is problem:
on port 1 (vlan 10), I have a RB connected on port 1 with 4 vlan on the rest (port 2, vlan 101, port 3, vlan 102...)
When I used RB (5 ports) instead of tplink it works fine, when I changed, tpink doesn't see the second level of vlans.
Did you understand? so before I could see the traffic on a cross-road coz I had 4 vlans on top of the main one, now everyhing is together coz tplink cannot see.
That's why I put vlan over vlan...

Sorry that still cannot understand completely. Do you mean that you have a router connected to port 24 of TP-Link, then you have another router connected to port 1 of TP-link?
So you have two ISP link and connected to your two routers? If you are convenient, please show your topology. Your network has too many VLAN, it's a little complex.

sorry for the delay!!! Lets try to explain better.
I have a switch TL-SG2210P and set one vlan for each port.... 2 = 20, 3=30.... on each port there are another a dump switch and 3 UBNT PTP... which I want to setup another vlan, example.
TL-SG2210P = TP
Dump Switch = DS
TP Ether 2 = Vlan 20 -> DS Ether 2 = Vlan202 (it all on ubnt radios)
I had set on TP the Vlan 20, but dont know if I have to set 202 too... if I have to, donno how to do it.
so, it doesnt work. That-s why, I say vlan over vlan....
on my MK, I set Vlan202 under Vlan20....
hope anyone understand now.
thanks

AFAIK, TL-SG2210P smart switch does not support VLAN VPN aka Tag in Tag aka QinQ. You need a managed switch which supports QinQ.
T2500G and T3700G support QinQ, probably others, too.

@hermeson, this are just different terms for the same thing. In TP-Link's terminology it is called VLAN VPN b/c it is used mainly by ISPs to create a VPN for a customer by using VLAN over VLAN. See the FAQ I've linked to.
If »VLAN over VLAN« is not meaning double tagged frames, I don't understand what you mean with this term.

@hermeson, sure I got it. This is usually called QinQ, or Tag in Tag or VLAN VPN or (new to me) VLAN over VLAN or double tagged frames.
Do you get it that different vendors use different terms? It isn't a standardized mechanism. Every vendor can call this like he wants.
