Hi guys,

I'm working on a video surveillance project, the site is 2km away from HQ. Both in rural area site is at higher level than HQ, there are trees but I am hoping to get LOS with high masts.

Since the site will be constantly uploading about 100mbits ps I am trying to connect wbs510 client with dish pointed at wbs510 ap with sector antenna TL-ANT5819MS.

What you guys think about this configuration?

I have cpe610 and cpe510 available too. But my concern is trees, they grow..

Thanks.

Why would you consider to use a sector antenna? If you want to achieve a constant 100 Mbps (data) throughput you will need a PtP link anyway, so the WBS510 AP should have a dish also (e.g. TL-ANT5830, designed for WBS510). I have no experience with CPE610 yet, but I would prefer two WBS510 with TL-ANT5830 anyway.

@R1D2 thanks a lot for the reply.

I am preferring sector antenna because there are two more existing cameras both uploading from cpe510s to cpe510 ap. I was thinking to upgrade the ap to WBS510 with sector. So three sites in total within about 60 degrees. The actual upload rate won't reach 100mbits. There are 4 or 5 cams 1080p 6-8 fps.

Aliturkmen, I think you should give it a try. But keep in mind that the wider the antenna beam width (90º/120º for sector antenna compared to 6º for the dish antenna), the weaker the RF energy, so a fresnel zone clearance is of the utmost importance.

@R1D2 indeed fresnel zone is what I am afraid of most here because Los is hardly available already because of trees. Maybe I should just wire one WBS-510 ap with dish specially for this new site to the mast, leaving the existing setup separate.

Thanks.

Yes, trees and even rain have an effect on the radio link and at a distance of 2km this could become a problem. But I would try it anyway. Surprisingly, for me it did work over 600m distance in practice better than predicted in theory, see this story here.
