Hello everybody,

I just bought an AC 1200 access point to extend the wifi network to the back part of the house. All the installation instructions concentrate on the software and not on the seemingly easy part of the physical connection to the router. I have a DSL access point with four LAN outlets. I use a LAN cable to connect my computer and it works pefectly (Wifi also works). So instead of my computer I connected the LAN cable from the router into the EAP on the back side where it says ETH0 (PoE IN) hoping that this would create a connection to my router (just like my computer). I read somewhere that a light shoud flash (probably the little hole in the front?) but there is nothing that flashes.

Should the light flash as soon as I plug it in the LAN port of the router? I downloaded the OMADA app but it doesn't see the EAP either. What's wrong here?

Thank you very much from a beginner in the world networks.

Andreas

No. You cannot connect the EAP225-Wall to a LAN port of a router directly.

The EAP225-Wall needs a PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch to work. See the description in the EAP225-Wall Installation Guide:

If you don't have a PoE switch, you could also use a PoE adapter such as TL-POE105S as the PSE (Power Sourcing Eqipment), which has an input for the LAN cable, a power supply and an PoE output to connect the EAP225-Wall to the PSE.

Thank you! Once I connect the EAP225-Wall via the PoE adapter to the router, does the EAP225 (after the configuration) behave like an extension of the router (same SSID and same password)? So I move from the router towards the back of the house with my wifi connected iPhone and there will be a seamless transition?

@LaCorne, yes, it's part of the same network and it will support basic roaming according to the 802.11 standard. However, seamless roamin aka fast roaming will not work betwee your router's WiFi and the EAP's WiFi, since it requires Omada controller to control the APs (impossible for the router's AP).
