Model: EAP225-Outdoor
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Hi there,

I'm working on a medium sized Omada PoC and was wondering if I could get everyone's help.

I'm searching for the updated/correct firmware for some EAP225-Outdoor V1 devices.

They shipped with 1.6.1 Build 20191224 Rel. 53067, but I need the bugfixes/features of 1.7.0 Build 20200113.

Interestingly, the Canadian site's firmware is the same as the US firmware, but out of date.

When trying 1.7.0 from the US site, I get an "upgrade failed : file check failed, please select a correct flie." when flashing via my Omada 3.2.10 controller

My PoC EAP245(US)'s flash from my Omada 3.2.10 controller perfectly via the Canadian site's firmware (which is US firmware).

Could anyone point me to the latest Canadian EAP225-Outdoor V1 firmware?

The Canadian site only has firmware much older vs the US site and I'll need the 1.7.0 update for my PoC to be successful.

Re-flashing 1.6.1 also gives an "upgrade failed : file check failed, please select a correct flie." - could this is actually be an Omada bug and not an incorrect firmware file?

I've tried typical diagnostic steps on the Omada controller.  I havent yet tried returning the AP to standalone mode and flashing it that way.

If anyone's curious, here are the two sites:

Canada:

https://www.tp-link.com/ca/support/download/eap225-outdoor/v1/

Latest firmware is: EAP225-Outdoor(US)_V1_1.5.0 Build 20190404

US:

https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/eap225-outdoor/v1/#Firmware

Latest firmware is: EAP225-Outdoor(US)_V1_1.7.0 Build 20200113

Thanks so much!

I also submitted a support ticket but never heard back.

Thank you very much for trying to help R1D2 and @jonas!

I got some bad news today!

Dear Customer,
Thank you very much for your email requesting information about TP-Link product.

Thank you for your valued feedback. Just confirmed with the senior engineers, the EAP225-Outdoor sold in Canada is using specially designed firmware to meet the local wireless regulations.
Because the 5G wireless regulations in Canada is different from that in the USA, so the EAP225-Outdoor in Canada cannot be upgraded to the firmware released in the USA.
In addition, the latest firmware for the EAP225-Outdoor in Canada is Build 20191224, whose 5G band only supports Band4(channel 149-165). Sorry that currently there is no new firmware released for the device in Canada.

I have forward the feedback to the related department who will update the info on the Canadian sites. Thank you for your cooperation and patience. Have a nice day!

I responded with:

That’s too bad! I was hoping for another answer!

Is there a timeline to get the 1.7.0 firmware built for the Canadian EAP225-Outdoor?

This prevents me from completing my PoC...

Are there any plans to copy other vendors where Canadian devices have a checkbox to be compliant vs locking the firmware?

Sounds like the Canadian device will be toombstoned from future firmware releases sadly...

@WirelessForEver I'm having basically the same problem. I bought an EAP225 Outdoor to use with the Omada Controller v4.x and it cannot be used until the firmware is updated, but no new firmware is available. I have firmware 1.6.1. Now the 1.20 firmware is available in the US. It feels like this product is abandoned in the Canadian market.

US allows channels 36-48 outdoors, while Canada does not (indoor only).

Both allow 149-165 outdoors and both require DFS/TPC (or .5W max power) for 50-144, with Canada also restricting some of these channels for weather radar.
The changes needed don't seem major (block some channels via firmware).

Basically this looks like the Canadian market is not big enough for tp-link to update their firmware for us for outdoor units. I wonder why they still sell the EAP225-Outdoor here then and label it as "Hot Buys". It is readily available online and from many B&M outlets.

I do note that TP-Link support just said there is no supported firmware presently, so maybe in the future...

yes we will be stock with old bugged firmware. Still no firmware for Omada SDN controller. The funny thing is that this can be dealt without firmware block. You can just geolocalize + ask user for location then asjust freq plan according. It was always dealt like that in past. But most and most companies now use different firmware which is the worst way to deal with this issue. Having to update multiple firware always makes some version being left of.

i am now considering re doing my whole wireless network with another provider
