Dear all.

I have an EAP225-Outdoor in a remote place, it is powered from a TL-SG2428P and everything is working.

Now I need to install a PoE ip cam in the same place, no possibility for another cable from the switch or to use a plug wall. My idea was to use a switch powered using PoE where attach the cam and the EAP225-Outdoor.

I bought a Tenda TEG1105PD, but the EAP225-Outdoor isn't working (don't wake up, no led at all).


I read that EAP225-Outdoor is a little problematic with the PoE, so there is a PoE powered switch compatible with the EAP225?

Alternatively, an EAP110 could be compatible with this switch (now the EAP225 is outdoor but I can consider to put it indoor with the switch)?

 

Point 2, is possible assign the two devices (EAP and cam) to two different VLANs (the EAP to the main, it streams 3 different wifi, the cam to the specific VLAN)?

You have to be careful with POE and the 225-Outdoor, it accepts 24V passive OR POE/POE+ (48V).  Sending 48V over a passive line can fry it's little power supply :(

 

Assuming your AP isn't dead already (verify with original switch POE), I have used something like this www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0CB3G7333 (there are cheaper versions if you look around).  Also this design is 30W in, Max 24W total out, Max 8W per port (but I suspect this is average, you should be able to pull 12W from 1 port if you need to))

 

But you could also use TPlink's version SG2005PD.

The EAP 225 is survived and is working great.

 

In Italy the TP Link isn't available on Amazon, the other one yes, so if it is working and will not damage the EAP 225 I will buy it.

 

Otherwise the EAP110 could be compatible with this switch?

The outdoor version wasn't available when I did it, so I had to put the indoor version in a PVC box.  But these devices works great...basically your main switch feeds POE+ to this switch, which then provides POE (13W max) to each of the 4 switch ports (not to exceed 30W or whatever total across all 4 ports).

Hi @brambil 

Before we select the PoE switch, we may need to know some basic info about the PoE standard to avoid the compatible issue. You can refer to this link to find some information on this situation. Generally the PoE devices from the same company will be recommended.

 

Besides, the power consumption of both the PoE source and PoE out should also be considered. At your case, please note that EAP110 will NOT be able to compatible with the Tenda switch since the EAP110 only supports passive PoE instead of standard PoE.

 

For VLAN settings, if you have the Omada routers, and use the controller to manage them, please refer to this link to configure the multi network.

Thanks. The power consumption should be ok (less than 5W the EAP225, less than 6W the cam with IR led on, so including the switch itself it will be under 15W without any doubts). Thanks for the link to the FAQ. My Omada configuration is: ER7206 v1.0 TL-SG2428P v2.0 2x EAP225 Outdoor 1x EAP110 OC300

Neither the 110 or 110-outdoor can use standard POE (48V), they must be powered by their supplied 24V passive injector, so this should be status quo for you.

Dear all, I'm here again. I have a problem, with this switch the IP e VLAN doesn't work anymore. I set the Omada switch port to All profile, one of the client, tiè AP, has to be to the main, the other (the cam) should receive a specific IP and VLAN that is stored in the DHCP and if the cam is connect directly to the Switch everything works, if I put the Passive Switch the cam receives an IP fron the main pool.

That behaviour is normal for a dumb switch, you have a couple of options.

 

A) make the switch port feeding the POE extender native to the VLAN for your cameras, so now your camera gets the right IP.  Then read up and design your solution so that you have a management VLAN and make sure the AP is properly configured for this management VLAN.  This way, the AP will already be tagging traffic correctly to its management VLAN and get a management IP, but the untagged ports will map to the Camera VLAN.

 

B) The switch isn't totally dumb (it has a little black switch as shown below), This may help...you'll need to play around with it a bit to see how it works though.  Based on the description I would guess the ports get tagged with VLAN1, VLAN2 and VLAN3 respectively and then trunked up the POE IN to your switch which can then sort them out.  Downside is you don't get to pick the numbers.
