Hi

 

Recently I have setup an ac1350 eap 225 access point and an omada 200 controller. Both are wired to my lan switch and the connection showing as wired in my controller software. These work fine 

 

However, I purchased a second Eap225  access point to improve my coverage this too is wired into the same switch. I can see it showing on my switch and has an ip address on my network in the correct range. However it will only adopt in the omada software as wireless! I obviously want this to be wired to my network. I tried getting around this by turning the radio off of the first aep then resetting the second but it won't detect the second aep to adopt. Likewise if I turn the radio of the first off with the second already adopted the second aep loses all connections. 

 

Can anyone please help me get both these aeps to be as wired access points on my omada controller

@Mattyboof, turn of Mesh in Omada controller. This will probably reveal a bad wired connection between EAP 2 and your switch (cable?).

@Mattyboof, turn of Mesh in Omada controller. This will probably reveal a bad wired connection between EAP 2 and your switch (cable?).

I did try this yesterday but did it again just now to be sure. 

 

It shows as "disconnected" in the omada software however it still shows as being on my network when I list macs and ips on my router (edgerouter). 

Edit.... 

Mate you were 100% correct tested all the cables serving the eap and one of them had a faulty orange / white. Fixed now though. 

 

Should I turn mesh back on now?

If you don't plan to use a mesh network, you can disable it permanently. I always disable it by default unless the customer requires meshing.

Thank you, appreciate you taking the time. I'm very new to this home networking it was a lockdown project that has taken far too much time and money to implement. Just so I understand, mesh is when the devices are connected together but for my clients in my setup, the "fast roaming" achieves the same thing? Basically all I want is that my devices/clients connect to the best eap signal as we move around the house.

@Mattyboof, meshing is a technique to wirelessly link EAPs to the network. A mesh network is not required to use fast roaming.

 

Fast roaming just requires that the client supports the 802.11k/v standards used by Omada EAPs for fast roaming and that the Omada controller is running all the time. Of course, wireless parameters of all EAPs need to be the same for any type of roaming (basic/fast).
