Hi all,

Does EAP225-Outdoor require a constant LAN connection to the Router?

The router is located inside the office building and I'm planning to install EAP225-Outdoor at the building outdoor car park. Will this be possible without a LAN cable running from the router to the EAP225? Appreciate your advise on this. Thanks.

Yes.

If you use two EAP225-Outdoor you can establish a mesh network (wireless link) if the distance is not too large (< 100m). So, you could mount one EAP225-OD on the building and one at the car park and link the second to the first using a wireless link. However, it still requires a) a LAN connection (albeit wirelessly) and b) a cable connection from the fist EAP225-OD to the router.

@Cols I was also able to accomplish this using two CPE510 devices to create the building to building link.  That provides a very reliable and stable point to point connection (in my case about 1/8 mile), and then I connected the EAP225-OD to the remote CPE510.  Works great.  The setup looks like this:

Main Router > hardwire PoE > CPE510 > wireless N300 link > CPE510 > wired PoE > EAP225-OD

This is the recommended way if the distance is larger than 100m.

However, I would recommend an EAP110-Outdoor rather than an EAP225-Outdoor, b/c the (wireless) throughput over a link with two CPE510 is limited to 300 Mbps and there will be no interference between the 2.4 GHz (EAP110-Outdoor) and 5 GHz WLAN (CPE510).

@R1D2 thanks for the reply.  My distance is over 100 meters, and I do have power turned down 50% on the CPE510's. Also the channel bandwidth on the EAP225-OD set to 20 Mhz.  So far 5.0 Ghz has not had any conflicts/interference issues, it is the 2.4 Ghz band where I am having issues.  If there are issues on the 5.0 Ghz band I will try your suggestion.

Hi Precison23, that's a very good argument to use EAP225-Outdoor if the 2.4 GHz band has issues. If 5 GHz would have interferences, you could also disable the 5 GHz radio, so turning the EAP225-Outdoor into an EAP110-Outdoor from a functional point of view.
