Hi All,

I am fairly new to the Forums, but I wanted to share with you a quirk or strange thing I found with the TL-SG105PE that might help others. As you can see from the attached diagram this is my current home network setup (very over-engineered). Some users were complaining that the TL-SG105PE did not have any management interface feature. What I found is that if you have DHCP Servers in your VLANs and the same VLANs assigned to the TL-SG105PE switch, depending on the order you added the VLANs to the TL-SG105PE, for example let’s say:

VLAN Order
Order No. VLAN Usage
1 1 Default TP-Link
2 100 Staging
3 110 Management
4 120 LAN
5 130 Guest
6 140 VoIP
7 150 DMZ

And you have the DHCP setting for the TL-SG105PE turned-on. The TL-SG105PE will pick-up the first DHCP assignment from what-ever VLAN is listed last. If we look at the table above this would be Order No. 7, VLAN 150. So, the TL-SG105PE would be assigned a 192.168.150.xxx/24 address.

This will happen every time you reboot and have the DHCP option turned on. What you can do instead is set the PVID to VLAN 110 and manually set the IP address to the IP range of that VLAN. In this case the TL-SG105PE will end-up being set to 192.168.110.2/24.

Now no other devices can access the TL-SG105PE as we have manually set the IP address to that VLAN only and can only be accessed on the Management VLAN of 110.

Hope this makes some sense. It is a bit difficult to put into words, but I really enjoy this little switch and it came in at under $100.

Thank you.
