Model: EAP220
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Hi,

we are successfully using the EAP225 v3 in many sites successfully with mesh-function. But we have one site which has some older EAP220 v1. Since the reception in some pars of the building is very bad and there is no way to wire new EAP there I would like to install a mesh network at that site, too.

I know that EAP220 is generelly not capable of the mesh-function. But does that mean, that the AP also is not able to act has a wired host for newer EAP225? At least the 220 has the 5 GHz band, too.

Kind regards,

Christian

Hi Christian,

Yes, that is correct.  The older models (including even EAP225V1 and V2) do not support MESH.

Only EAP225V3, EAP225V1-Outdoor (which used the same chipset as the V3), EAP245V3, and I believe EAP265V1 (which uses the same chipset as the EAP245V3) support MESH.  I believe the new EAP620 HD and 660HD are planned to support MESH but these aren't fully released/available yet.

So you would need to upgrade your 220.
