EAP600HD with discarded and error packets, is this normal?

Model: EAP660 HD
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.0 Build 20200904 Rel. 55285(4a50)

Hi,

I use EAP660HD as a main AP for my office. Number of WiFI user is around 30. It was working nicely until I saw a small problem yesterday, when one of users compained slow internet speed for a short time. I checked AP's interface by logging ssh. There I saw Wifi0/1 was having dropped/error packets. I suspect WiFI AP devices normally have more packet errors. But it seems strange to me that the more bandwidth used, the more packet errors regardless of number of users. Is this normal? Is there any tools to diagnose those issues? Currently I don't use Amada controller. Because it screwed up my config last time. Any help would be appreciated!

I also monitor the device by Zabbix. I can see the above issue has been there since a few days ago when we replaced old AP to this one.

@MasahiroCG

Hey

At a quick calculation you are getting around 3% packet errors, this seems perfectly normal and not something I would be worried about personally.  Of course ideally it should be as close to 0% as possible, 3% isn't bad really, especially with 30 active clients.

However to answer your question, it will grow with the volume of traffic and not specifically the volume of clients served.

If you have 30 clients just doing normal stuff, the airway will be busy but organised and therefore dropped / retries should be minimal (they will happen).  However if you have more traffic, regardless of the number of clients.. it will saturate the airspace and therefore increase the risk of a dropped / retry packet.    3% is perfectly normal imho, usually retries for example is "Good" up to 20%

However bear in mind that this will grow exponentially as you add more data across the air.  If you want to address this try changing channels as it could be 3rd party interference.

Mine for comparison sits around 4% constantly with spikes to ~20% when during peaks, that is 2x EAP245s with 50 clients

@Philbert

Hi, Thanks for your kind explanation. It makes sense.
I haven't see large increase on error packets since then.
I will keep attention on the issue.

Thanks so much for your advice as always!
