Model: EAP660 HD
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.5 Build 20201120 Rel. 54290

Hi,

We are using 4xEAP620 and 1xEAP660 with OC200 controller on two floors.

The issue we are facing the frequent restart of EAP660.

Initially it was resolved by lowering TX power to medium from high (for 2.4GHz only), but soon after it start happening again.

Then we swapped the EAP660 with EAP620 for the suspect of high interference.

However it didn't resolve the issue and restarts within an hour, surprisingly the EAP620s are stable in same environments even the one we swapped is stable at new position too.

we are forced to reduce the TX power of EAP660 to low from medium again, but this clients are facing low signals and connects with adjacent EAP620, eventually causing more load on single load, and utilization of EAP660 remains low despite its purpose of serving more clients.

Please advise, else we are thinking to sacrifice this AP and buy a newer EAP620 instead of that.

@John1234

Yes John you were right about the power issue, but it didn't resolve with shorter cable even, as we swapped AP with the shortest most cable run, but it still persisted, then it was figured out that the PoE switched of Cisco we used was 802.3af, however the required PoE standard for AP660 is 802.3at, that is much higher is required for this AP.

So, eventually we shut down the PoE port power for that AP and provided a direct power source from provided power adapter.

This resolved the issue eventually and AP is stable since then.

Thanks for your suggestion and figuring it out.

I am wondering if there is a problem with your power supply. Since EAP660 HD and EAP620 HD are similar. PoE+. Yet, 660 is using about 20W. While 620 is 13.5W. https://www.tp-link.com/us/business-networking/omada-sdn-access-point/eap660-hd/#specifications Think that you can try the different cables for the power supply. Try shorter cables to test if this is a length issue. Power supply method, if you have the original power adapter. Give it a shot. If you can get a stable 660 with that power unit. Sure about that's a power issue. In most cases, the power issue will lead to a restart....
