tp-link er605 less than 1/4 as fast than older tp-link TL-R600VPN
tp-link er605 less than 1/4 as fast than older tp-link TL-R600VPN
The first screenshot is the speed of my old TL-r600VPN about 30 minutes before swap out with ER605 which is the second screenshot.
The download speed has dropped to less that 1/4 of the older router and the upload speed has been halved.
Both are configured for MTU 1500 and the ER605 shows all ports to be running at 1Gbps.
I rebooted the ONT and the network equipment connected directly to the switch.
I expected it to be at least on par if the old router was not slowing anything down - but this is much worse.
OK - forum won't let me add another screenshot - even as a seperate reply. The new router speeds are DOWNLOAD = 60.23, UPLOAD = 94.92

@djsdjs Ok, this morning I ran StarTrinity to compare and it shows the ER605 to be much better. Ookla and fast.com also show speeds around 500/500. The switch over was done at the time marker 2023-07-24 07:33:02.
Not sure why I got the other results from ookla yesterday.

@djsdjs OK I've tried all these firmware versions - all the same results.
So odd that the old router is over 5 years old and works better.
Gonna reinstall the old one and send this one back.

Hi @djsdjs
Thanks for posting in our business forum.
If you've sent it back, then never mind.
If not, consider the following facts:
Do you use the same cable? At least verify the physical connection is fine.
Is the DNS the same as your old router? Try the old DNS servers or use public domains like 8.8.8.8 and run the test again.

Make sure that 'IP statistics' is disabled. Its under the 'Status->Traffic statistics' menu. ISTR that its enabled by default and can cause high CPU usage.
Also check that Bandwidth control and/or QoS are not enabled

Ok, after I re-installed the R600VPN one, it initially had the same speed reduction as the ER605.
Now that it's sat overnight it's back up to over 200 Mbps.
Is there anything about the router and the ISP network that needs time to negotiate up to full speed?

@Clive_A Everything else was identical on purpose. I did try OpenDNS (like the old router) and the default ISP DNS.

@KimcheeGUN I have the defaults for anything like that. Where would I find that in the router admin interface?

Yup its in the Router Admin GUI and or in the Omada Controller (if you using it).
I think its in the WAN/LAN setting side of the router admin gui.
