Hello, I have the following problem, from time to time the router needs to reconnect because the ISP give us a dynamic IP, problem is that the router does not reconnect, however if I log in to the router and manually click on the "connect" button there is no problem, the conection is successful, any ideas what can be the problem?

Hi @Andres123 

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

This seems to be an issue with your ISP. The log reflexes the interaction between its WAN port to the ISP server. And it reports there were several reconnects to the ISP server to authenticate the username and password.

 

"PADI timeout" should be fine if your PPPoE can reconnect to the ISP and get the Internet.

I wonder why the problem is fixed when I click manually on "connect", if I do that there is no "PADI timeout" error.

 

However if I let the router to automatically reconnect it can't because of that error.

 

Maybe this can be a bug in the firmware?

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

Since this error occurs in the middle of the night, in the morning, when you notice your network is down, do you see this error, "PADI timeout" and "disconnected by peer" still logged in the morning?

So to iterate this, in the morning, by the time you click the "Connect", the network is still down and errors pop up in the log with a fresh timestamp. Is that correct?

 

After you click the "Connect", the issue immediately goes away?

In fact I was at the office this time (at 1 am lol) when the wan went offline, I started to check the logs and the errors were the one I pasted, after 3 minutes I clicked "connect" and problem disappeared. Magic.

 

01:15 WAN was down.

01:18 I clicked the "connect" button

As it leaks your IP address. For the sake of your network security.

 

About the issue, kinda strange. So if you don't manually connect it, does it recover? If this happens again, can you monitor that? Because this time it only takes 3 minutes. But usually, this PPPoE authentication would not take a very long time. There may be a lag between the ISP server to your end, but should not be very long.

It recovers but can take up to 15 minutes with no intervention, usually the PPPoE authentication takes only 5 seconds or so.

 

This is weird, it didn't happen with the router we had before (an archer c80), that makes me think it could be a firmware bug.

 

I will wait for this to happen a few times more and save the logs, then will share them here.

Sure, of course. So, if this happened again, 15 minutes without intervention, it stuck there, you can reach out to me again.

If the time is consistent around 1 AM, you can probably swap the Archer for a comparison. If this happens on the Archer as well, taking 15 minutes to recover, then it could be the ISP problem.

If you recently upgrade the firmware and the issue pops up, you can let me know. I'll check with my colleagues.
