hello everyone,

I am connecting my router to an ISP with fiber glas SFP GPON connection. The problem is the ISP says that i am getting 1000 Mbit but when i do a speed test i am getting only around 500Mbit. The ISP provider is Telekom in Germany maybe someone can tell of some settings that i need to change

some setting i did

MTU and MRU = 1480

enable VLAn = 7

enable 802.1Q Tag

The rest is defaulted

Best Regards

Ibrahim

Hi @Ibrahim_wifi_om

Thanks for posting in our business forum.
Do you get 1000Mbps from the fiber directly? PC connected to the media converter you use. What's the result?

Or you have a router to test it, that'll do the same trick. I need to verify this before we move on it further.

Be sure you use the default DNS on the WAN. If the same result, try 8.8.8.8 or any common one.

Hi @Ibrahim_wifi_om

Update your firmware as well. 1.1.2 should be the latest one.

  @Ibrahim_wifi_om

Thanks for your reply. Actually when i upgraded the speed even goes lower so i downgraded again and did all the settings fresh.

I can't test the speed from Fiber glass directly as i had to register the GPON SFP interface because the ISP don't allow anything to login in the network unless the modem id is registered.

Do you have other ideas how to test from the router directly?

Best Regards

Ibrahim

Do you have a media converter to convert the fiber to ETH? If no, there is no way I can rule out the ISP is to blame.

I think you can call the ISP and ask them to come over and do a field test for you as your network speed is not normal. And you can not even rule out if the ISP's line is good or not. I think you have the right to get free support from them.

At the same time, you should also ask if there is a specific setting like MTU that needs to be changed on the WAN parameters when they come or when you contact them.
