Transferring SSIDs

Transferring SSIDs

I have an existing Archer AX1800 WiFi router using 2 SSIDs (one as Guest). Also connected via cable is a 3 device mesh system with a separate SSID. The Archer is connected to the Internet from a Virgin Media SuperHub in modem mode.

I am about to replace the entire system (except the VM SuperHub) with an Omada controlled setup, with 4 APs and various switch ports.

My question is - if I use the same SSIDs and passwords on the new Omada system (with all of the old system switched off) will all of my devices retain their connection details for the old system SSIDs and pick up where they left off using the new Omada system, which would save me re-configuring all of my user devices, or would I be better off biting the bullet and using a completely new set of SSIDs and making all devices forget the old ones?

 Hi @Wurlitzerwilly

I tested in our local lab with an Archer router and an EAP. The encryption mode is also the same.

My iPhone reconnects to the new SSID broadcasted by the EAP automatically.

But we can't say for sure that all kinds of clients will do the same as the phone.

Thanks for testing. If encryption is the same I guess other clients should follow what the iPhone does. If it doesn't work, I'll just have to change the SSIDs and suck it up. 😀
