We use a mixture of hard phones and softphones (PC-based SIP clients). For the hardphones, the Voice VLAN function is a no-brainer.

I am wondering if we can also send our softphone traffic to the Voice VLAN via tagging at the PCs and gain the advantages of it. We have one physical network port on our PCs, but we can tag the voice traffic with the VLAN ID of the Voice VLAN to separate it.

Will this work? Will our softphone voice traffic tagged with the Voice VLAN ID get the same priority as the hardphone traffic on the Voice VLAN, even if the ports are not explicitly select on the "Port Config" page? The whole port should not be prioritized of course - only the Voice VLAN traffic coming and going on that port.

Many thanks!
