Hi,

As part of my job, I've been using a set of EAP220 access points to set up temporary private WiFi networks, at a variety of different locations. With our initial set we've not experienced any problems and have been pleased with the stability and capacity of the hardware. From the web admin system, these are the specs:

Device model: EAP220
Device name: EAP220-18-a6-f7-c1-25-80
Firmware version: 2.0.2 Build 20160401 Rel. 65964

I recently ordered a second set to expand and use as a back up system, but I've had issues with them, even though they are configured the same as the original set. The specs are:

Device model: EAP220
Device name: EAP220-98-de-d0-65-b6-66
Firmware version: 2.0.2 Build 20160401 Rel. 65964

When I configure two access points, both using the same SSID and two different channels on the 5ghz band, the access point with the lower channel number couldn't be seen by my wifi scanning apps on my mobile phone. If I switched off the AP with the higher channel number it would reappear. This also meant the phone and other devices would only ever attempt to connect to the one AP.

The problem only exists with the new set, so I'm guessing there has been a hardware revision, given the different device name in the specs. Is there a way to fix this problem, or a new model that doesn't have these issues?

Thanks!

The device name is just EAP220 followed by its MAC address. It is always different for each single device. If both use firmware v2.x, they are both hardware version 2.

As for the ESSID: same ESSIDs are often grouped in WiFi analyzers/scanners. SmartPhones and other wireless devices select APs by using their ESSIDs and BSSIDs (the MAC address), so they indeed will recognize two devices even if they have the same ESSID.

The EAP Controller can discover all the EAP devices currently connected to the network and displaythe information about them on the Access Points page. You can view the Detailed Information of EAPs on it.

Has this issue been solved? I tried to set the same SSID and different channels on two APs. Actually in my wifi scanning app, i can clearly see the two SSIDs followed by different MAC addresses.
Just wondering what scanning apps do you use? And can you post some snapshots here?
