@manning33 Do you wanna set the CPE as WISP mode to connect this open wifi to extend the network? I haven't tried the similar topo like yours, but normally assign the CPE a static IP, not dynamic.

@Ogy Changed the channel and channel width of root ap for testing, maybe they are in the different channels. Suggest you reset the root ap and mesh ap together and readopt them one more time,...
