What's the IP address of the device which you are trying to open port for? Ensure its IP address is assigned by TD-W8968. If you didn't change IP address of W8968, it should be 192.168.1.*.

It will work because there are three LAN ports for you to connect other devices although you have connected the main router to one of its LAN ports.

You shoulde use 40MHz as channel width. The network is secured with WPA2-PSK, AES? Did you change any other settings? Can you reset it to factory defaults and check the Max Tx Rate?
