If you are having difficulties setting up the router in WDS mode, go get yourself a cheap-o dedicated repeater for less than $10 and that should do the trick :)

Any AP would suffice, even a spare wireless modem/router that you may have which can be setup in WAN mode.

I can only think of one case where that would work and that is if the area that needs to be serviced via "near-distance" 2.4Ghz WiFi in the farm end can be enclosed by the azimuth and elevation...
