Hi all,
I just bought a TL-WR940ND V6 from Fry's electronics.
I want to experiment with dd-wrt on this model but I need to be sure that I can return to the factory firmware if desired.
Well here's the rub.
The firmware web page for the TL-WR940ND model has nothing higher than version 5 firmware, http://www.tp-link.com/us/download/TL-WR940N_V5.html
There is no version 6 firmware available.
Also, according to http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices:
A 940 V1 runs an Atheros AR9132 at 400 MHz and has a 9V 850mA power supply.
A 940 V2 runs an Atheros AR9341 at 535 MHz and has a 9V 600mA power supply.
A 940 V3 runs an Atheros TP9343 at 750 MHz and has a 12V 1A power supply.

My 940 V6 says 9V 600mA on the back of the router.
So, I might guess that my V6 router is running an AR9341 at 535 MHz but, I would like to have better assurance that this is true.
Also, does anyone know of official TP-Link firmware that is correct for the TL-WR940N V6?
I am reluctant to experiment without a clearly defined TP-Link firmware to return to if needed.

Thanks all

I found the v6 of this model on global website: http://www.tp-link.com/en/download/TL-WR940N.html#Firmware, but the firmware is EU version, so not sure whether you can use it, more importantly, as for as I know, installing any third party firmware will void the tp-link warranty, so if it works fine, you'd better not try the ddwrt firmware...

Hello Shield101,
I'm in the U.S.
My 940 v6 has 3.17.1 Build 170407 Rel.68462n firmware installed (April 04, 2017).
The EU firmware you mention, is build 170325 (March 25, 2017).
I can only assume that this router has U.S. firmware since, I bought it in the U.S.
Although, I see nothing in the firmware version reported by the router that specifically identifies it as a U.S. version of firmware
I wonder if maybe there is a defect in the installed firmware that keeps TP-Link from putting it on the U.S. website until it is fixed?
The unobtainable U.S. firmware is dated less than two weeks after the EU firmware, and both are more than six months old now.
Perhaps the U.S. website has just let this one slip through the cracks.
I will have to wait a while to see if v6 firmware appears on the U.S. website.

Thank You

Thanks nforcedragon fro the info.
I already have the 33525 beta version of DD-WRT for the 941NDV6.
It wont install.
Error 18005.
I discovered that TP-Link has locked the firmware in my 940 v6.
You cannot replace it from the web interface.
Only the v6 firmware that appeared on the U.S TP-Link site two weeks after I bought the router can be installed from the web interface without error 18005.
Any other firmware produces error 18005.
I returned the router to the store where I purchased it.
I probably will not purchase another TP-Link router.

Thank you
