hi,
I have a NAS. I set the NAS MTU bigger than 1500 (e.g. 4000). And my iMacs are set in MTU 9000.
When I connect the NAS in LAN, it works:
imac -- switching HUB -- NAS
|
+--- mac
|
C5400
|
internet
but when I move the NAS to C5400 ethernet port, then I can't communicate the NAS. Only when I set macs MTU 1500, I can communicate it:
imac -- switching HUB
|
+--- mac
| +-- NAS
| |
C5400
|
internet
In both case, imac and mac can communicate, and imac can communicate with the internet services.
why?

Not all TP-Link Routers Support Jumbo Frame , ( some switches do) it is the same pronblem for me with the C7......... have a look on google or your model's FAQ page and see if Jumbo Frame is supported.
The Small Net Builder website is a good place for alot of info link this ...ie looking at their Product Reviews...

Everything in the path must support large MTU / Jumbo Frame or it doesn't work..... I was surprised my C7 does not.... only thing on my network that doesn't, don't know about the C5400 though.
these are the only documents about Jumbo frame I could find on TP-Link support when i looked but they are for switches not Routers...

If it fallbacks to MTU=1500, it's OK. that should be.
I mean C5400 should responde to Path MTU Discovery, but I suspect it.
I said "no communication". that means I can't access the server. Connecting to the server cause a hang.
That seems that C5400 doesn't respond to PMD, so there is no answer that C5400 cant't accept the size (any thing bigger than the default 1500).
but my Mac or my server seem to wait the PMD response. it is called like "black hole".
This is something like what i want to ask.
Is there anyone who have the clue that C5400 doesn't have PMD and why?
or "I can connect MTU=9000 server, somewhere in your LAN must have the cause"
again, if C5400 only have MTU=1500, OK. that not the matter.

OK.
You titled the thread "jumbo frame on C5400" so people think that is what you are asking about ......
Perhaps ask over at SmallNetBuilders Forums where people really know there Routers ..... https://www.snbforums.com/forums/
I think this question is only for Tech Support here , since many Routers don't support Jumbo Frame , which would mean they likely don't support PMD either, AFAIK it is a Firmware thing as the Hardware is capable from what I read , at least on my C7., it is just not enabled.
TP-link does say that if Jumbo Frame is supported by their Product the Products Specs will tell you , if it is not mentioned it is not Supported.
Jumbo Frame parameter of TP-Link switches can be found in the product specification on our official website. Take the example of unmanaged switch TL-SG1024, we can go to product specification for TL-SG1024, in “performance” column, we can see that it supports Jumbo Frame with maximum 10K Bytes in frame size.
If there is no declaration for Jumbo Frame in product specification for one switch, that means this model number does not support jumbo frame feature, that is to say, the maximum frame size of this switch is 1522 Bytes/Supporting Baby Jumbo frame.

my MTU=9000 setting, C4500 communicates flawlessly to the Internet (MTU=1488). but doesn't with NAS on the port back.
I wanted the people with the same experience.
OK. thanks.
I understood the place is not appropriate.
thanks a lot.
