Model : AC1750 Archer C7 (bought in EU, Hungary)

Hardware Version : Archer C7 v2 00000000

Firmware Version : 3.15.1 Build 160616 Rel.44182n

ISP :

I've recently switched my router into access point mode, previously it worked fine as a router. I also have an Archer C2600 router in the house, previously they were set up to broadcast the same WiFi settings. Both routers used to get internet from a cable modem, now the C7 is connected LAN to LAN with the C2600 as per TP-Link tutorials.
Ever since my C7 is serving as an AP, the wifi started having issues. It takes a long while for devices to get internet access.

Example 1:
I'm connected on my iPhone next to C7 AP, start watching a Youtube video, walk over to C2600, video still playing, wifi still connected. Then I walk back to C7 and wifi disconnects. It takes a few minutes for the wifi to connect again. Until that happens, the phone tries to assign itself a 169.254.x.x IP address (default iPhone behavior as I read).

Example 2:
I'm on a Dell laptop next to C2600, internet works via wifi just fine. I walk over to C7 and Windows 10 says connected but no internet connection. I look at IP config and it shows me an IPv4 address that's in the range of the DHCP on the C2600, and the gateway is also the IP of C2600.

On the C7 I have DHCP disabled, both Hardware and Software NAT disabled, SPI Firewall disabled, IP is 192.168.1.11, outside the main router's DHCP range (192.168.1.100-199).

What else can I do?

I solved this issue by installing 3rd party DD-WRT firmware to the C7 (2018 january beta firmware). There I was able to set DHCP mode to forwarder and now the switching between wifis borks both ways.
