Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a C7/AC1750 to use as a WiFi access point on my existing network. I'm currently using all the ports on my existing router and obviously will need to use one of them to hang the C7 off.
Can I use the LAN ports on the C7 as additional ports, ie using it as a network switch as well as the access point ? I did find a document that covers the V1-V3 models that says you can do this by using one of the LAN ports instead of the WAN port but it did not include the V4 so was just checking before buying.
Many thanks,
John

Hi HiSpeed,
Yes, that is correct. I initially connected the C7 to my router via its WAN port and hung a PC off one of the LAN ports, but just now I tried it the other way round and it still works, so it does seem like in access point mode it just converts the WAN port to an additional LAN port, which is useful as it effectively adds an additional port.

I’m confused, my TP-Link is set up as an access point, lan to lan, dhcp turned off on the TP router, IP address under LAN is set aka a static one from the range of the main router. You don’t use a WAN uplink.
This creates, acts like an extension of the main router, addition ports, plus new WiFi. A computer on the main router can talk to a machine on the B router, vise a versa. Have you tried that test, running of the WAn port of the TP to a LAN port main router? My understanding is a WAN off the TP router, to a LAN main router should be set up on a different subnet then the main router.
