very slow shared storage transfer speeds

Just bought this today. Already hooked up everything though I am having a problem with my usb shared device. I hooked up a 0.5TB External HDD and it is painfully slow to write stuff on it through the network. I have a gigabit ethernet on the Win7 PC I am copying the data from though I barely get something like 1.2MB/s.
Everything is hooked to the same device hence there is nothing else inbetween the PC, the TPLink and the HDD.
Any ideas how to solve this problem?
